The scriptural pattern for this process is seen in the metaphor of God's breath, which repeatedly 'inspires' creation with new life. In order to explore this phenomenon, the author built an arts ministry within a local church with three branches: an art gallery with 3-5 exhibitions per year, a program of arts education with 3-5 offerings per year, and a regular practice of including the arts in worship in a variety of settings. The relationship between smaller membership churches and the presbytery is of particular concern. The author used surveys and multiple intervention strategies with smaller membership congregations within the Presbytery of Geneva, New York. Her conclusions include that transformational leadership that promotes healthy, vital, and tranformed communities of faith is paramount. Some are involved in music department ensembles which require their participation, several are over-involved in leadership activities, and others have rigorous majors. These student leaders need at least two formational realities: a spiritual formation model that does not add another layer of activity to their already hectic lives, and an intentional formational relationship with a pastoral educator-mentor who can help them engage in meaningful practices of Christian spiritual formation and deepen their skills in worship leadership. Distinctive pilot groups allowed the author to research, investigate, and delineate ideas and models for intentional formation mentoring. This thesis was tested with pre- and post-study surveys of A welcoming life participants. Results show that participants changed their beliefs about hospitality and God's desire for them to share their faith and their behavior regarding the frequency with which they share their faith and invite others to their churches. It bases theology for the pastoral care by the practical and hopeful narrative. The setting was Oak Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Seven theme sermons on the attributes of God were provided to provide a spiritual foundation for the church family. Seven African style intergenerational Bible studies were created to facilitate the healing, sustaining, guiding, and reconciling of Jesus within the church family.
