Congregants of one local historically black church, however, appropriated biblical and African American voices as prototypical sources of 'faith' to guide the church's response to those challenges. Thus this project examined how this historically black congregation thrived as a result of the use of Hagar's story and 19th century spiritual autobiographies of former black slaves in the African American diaspora of 1700 to 1899, influenced spiritual development and produced leaders among its female congregants."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720068644339712,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:00:06.187Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:55:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:05:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"57357bb8-0c50-4045-8930-3f6b68c9d3cb","accessControl_ssim":["20533578-efa3-4c4d-a442-cb6354b7ce1b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Spiritual entrepreneurialism: a story of bridging the sacred and secular for small church renewal"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:55:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:41:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a1cb6200-cb0e-4220-b106-c9c43e577daf"],"hasLease_ssim":["38c7e533-454e-4bd6-9c4c-2c704c3072d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Originally the thesis question was: what wisdom can be learned from the ways the United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church have engaged in debates and made decisions relating to the ordination of women and the ordination of gay and lesbian persons and the interactions of the respective denominations with their global partners? However, as this study has unfolded it became clear that the first question to be addressed is that of how our denominations, in the context of our histories, the social issues and ecclesial issues that have and continue to shape our lives, can come together as we seek to become transformed communities. Therefore this study explores a theological understanding of the democratic polities of the United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church and reflects on our movement towards 'life together'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714867312066560,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:37:25.809Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:54:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:08:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e8a4800a-3671-4999-b658-ef314991de65","accessControl_ssim":["d62af322-4f38-4f6f-a367-835b39eae90b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Worship as pastoral care: the recovery of the shout in the 21st century middle-class black church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:54:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:47:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0edef078-f664-43d8-a44d-81e82aad05b3"],"hasLease_ssim":["f557e1a5-8c09-45e2-953b-45a78d952981"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William B McClain"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The tool used to observe this change in this parish was ethnographic research and a focus on intentionality of worship, tradition, spirituality and story.
