She asked the question: could she create a standard training curriculum for the officers/leaders of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church that would serve as a prototype for other churches of the Free Will denomination? First, survey questionnaires that asked about the ministry selection process and required qualifications for this selection were sent to churches participating in the study. The data was collected, compared and contrasted with other researched information. She developed a training model, piloted the proposed model, and made an oral presentation. The root of this is a lack of healthy teamwork due to an unclear understanding of the doctrines of the church (Universal Priesthood of All Believers) and the Pastoral Office. The author explores the leadership development process from Via de Cristo, known to the United Methodist Church as Walk to Emmaus and to the Roman catholics as Cursillo. Within this movement a healthy teamwork is exhibited by both laity and clergy. The first is how does a post feminist preacher bridge the divide between evangelical traditional theology and social activism? The second is how can she persevere in pastoral ministry for the long haul? As she worked through her own story she discovered that preaching was a significant means for expressing the duality of her theology. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and images using the ethnographic method. The study addressed the emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of children and adolescents with cancer as well as the historical ad contemporary uses of the labyrinth. Five cancer patients were enrolled in the project with their assent and the consent of their parents. Representatives of thirty-nine small churches participated in workshops and developed an appreciative inquiry process that they used in their churches. In order for the church, specifically the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the author's context, to assist believers in slowing down and developing spiritual disciplines of listening, prayer, and discernment, church leaders must first model these deeper relationships, resisting the temptation to have church life reflect the busyness that seems to have become the norm rather than the exception.
