As the pastor of the historic Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, the author was able to ask the question: can biblical expositional preaching help a multigenerational church steeped in therapeutic culture deal with contemporary issues? A case study was produced where first the author developed a focus group to develop the contemporary issues that were important to the congregation as well as a survey to identify the top contemporary issues to be highlighted in a sermon series preached at Tabernacle Baptist Church. After the sermon series, those who participated in the initial survey were asked to participate in a follow-up survey to see if the preaching was helpful in dealing with contemporary issues. The author reports the results of the case study and makes some reflections about the strengths and limitations of the project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714847550603264,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:37:06.964Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:00:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:47:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"504af528-a438-4d04-a31a-e4c72cd4068d","accessControl_ssim":["47983d72-dc98-452f-8bf6-b53d6f4161aa"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Growing generosity: identity as stewards in the United Church of Canada"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:00:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:29:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e0e3cd93-b1cc-42be-808f-97607eb83bd4"],"hasLease_ssim":["6086b05e-063b-4065-a2ed-d61c989caa2f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lovett H Weems"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Christians are searching for a relation with a power higher than they are. Exploring ways to be intimate with God, without being rigid and insensitive to the needs of the people has compelled me to take action and offer a viable approach. However, ineffective models that currently serve God's people are dangerous. the case study of Charis Worship Center Ministries specifically demonstrates the unique use of the House Church concept in the formation of this ministry. This model must closely matches that of Jesus Christ's ekklesia. There are several ways to create this alternative model; however, the most useful method is the direct method of consistently restating the goal and mission in creative expressions with significant progress toward replicating the early church and producing the precept and principles to the contemporary Christian believer without compromise."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717995754291200,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:27:09.325Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:58:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:11:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f6c336e5-dd21-4c28-a173-31e3baf0c5f3","accessControl_ssim":["d627ee5a-869c-40df-a493-8fd3188fc87c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Health and wholeness: building spiritual health and physical well being of seniors in the Centennial-Caroline Street United Methodist Church and neighboring communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:58:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:10:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5d843d5e-2034-4cc2-9fd2-878538616f9b"],"hasLease_ssim":["2f0bc2a2-7661-485a-b58c-ad4bcbe94d5a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred D Smith"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Both males and females have contributed to that rich tradition; however, there has been an unjust trend in which women preachers are relegated to small churches and/or dysfunctional churches. A dialectic tension has erupted between the women preachers in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the cost they have paid to fulfill God's calling. Because of this phenomenon, their preaching voice has been under-developed and in need of nurturing. In this work, the author explores how the voices of women preachers from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries will help to nurture and empower twenty-first century prophetic women preachers in the African Methodist Episcopal church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791124984704270336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:04:55.386Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:58:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:32:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"19490ae9-3f8b-48f8-8903-0ae0dc8a9f5f","accessControl_ssim":["dba6df03-5f26-4ae6-b270-c05342a00984"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Redemption and restoration: sustainable environmental education and research programs"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:58:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:52:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["279e04a0-2208-4912-96d4-8bfefc05f97d"],"hasLease_ssim":["5e98a6d8-f4d1-485c-911a-a7b53d40d68a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This ministry has grown to encompass ecological and economic resource projects that take place at the Agricultural Experimental Station, University of the District of Columbia, Muirkirk Research Farm, Beltsville, Md. The 2007 project had two components: (1) A study of the Amaranth plant (Pigweed) for a possible 'niche' market; and (2) The study and removal of invasive species with the protection and restoration of native species.
