Both groups were given a pre-test immediately preceding the event and then a post-test two months later. The pastor met with fifteen parishioners during the season of Lent in order to prepare liturgies for the Second Sunday in Easter, Ascension Sunday, and Pentecost Sunday. The study discusses what worked and what did not work and then proposes a new model. What began as a study of lay participation in liturgy planning, ended up with some useful insights into the role of the pastor in the congregation. A number of issues relating to pastoral function and identity as well as the priesthood of believers are raised in the final chapter. In a church where there is a high degree of lay involvement, what is the unique role of the ordained minister? which roles can be shared in liturgical ministry and which roles cannot be shared?"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721713933484032,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:26:15.257Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:58:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:54:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9c76af95-7e62-4102-8a50-9a37c2073b4a","accessControl_ssim":["0e4cda18-8915-4966-94fe-0d4f3bbec932"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Why go to church: tracing the relationship of spiritual growth and church participation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:58:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:42:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9828c504-3f04-4fec-9343-933e9095d00b"],"hasLease_ssim":["b11bc9d0-caa9-46e2-b8cc-72d57a40949d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["1980"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The thesis/text is divided into two parts which address the sociological and theological dimensions of the church, respectively. Part one deals with the context of the church in America, the development of denominationalism, and the church and culture in terms of the church as a product of culture. Part two deals with the church in the New Testament, the views of Luther, Calvin and Wesley on the church, Avery Dulles' models of the church, and considers the views of Karl Barth and H Richard Niebuhr. The thesis/text suggests that our understanding of the church is best expressed in dialectical terms. God is the one who calls us, loves us and reaches out to us first, but there is also a human response. Three pastoral diagnostic variables - communion, repentance, and grace or gratefulness - of the seven pastoral diagnostic variables designated by Paul W Pruyser are found to be significant themes in the life stories of these recovering alcoholics and are used effectively as counseling parameters. Four of these alcoholics in long-term sobriety are interviewed in oral and written sessions. Two of them in short-term sobriety are seen in either short- or long-term counseling. Thematic creative stories and the Pastoral Diagnostic Inventory are helpful tools in clarifying these themes in the counseling of these two alcoholics."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717703926153216,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:22:31.016Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
