The author used a qualitative research method for gathering data. Personal interviews from pastors faced with this dilemma, plus questionnaires and interviews from his family, churches and communities, where he pastored with his disabled wife, played a significant role in his research. As well, an archival research into the effects and challenges facing caregivers and their families added to his insights.
