The process of the study included interviews with denominational executives, a study of 2 Timothy 3 and 4, and two surveys of the effectiveness of the pastors in the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church. A general prescription for improving preaching effectiveness and personal prescriptions for improving preaching effectivness were given between the two surveys. The properly trained and prepared church is the perfect culture for recovery from addiction to occur. Assuming that 'all truth is God's truth,' this dissertation is designed to gather science that is compatible with scripture, and integrate as a theology of addiction and recovery. Neuroscience, as well as psychological and sociological truths, helps demonstrate the importance of the church in addressing this issue. The dissertation is multi-method: interdisciplinary, integrative (science and theology) and ethnographic (addict and recovery cultures). The study used an integrated approach, combining archival and survey methods. Five theoogical issues are explored as they inform partnership. They are the Trinity, the purpose of God (missio Dei), the body of Christ, the gifts of the Spirit, and the church -- both local and universal. A survey was used to have attendees of the CAR Consultation reflect on these theological issues in the context of partnership. The author researched spiritual formation theory and Native American culture and Christianity. This study shows seven dimensions of Christian missions in correspondence with a sevenfold mission of Christ. Findings revealed that a general structure of the lived experience emerged consisting of four theme clusters with fifteen invariant constituents: (1) the field leaders' role, (2) the field leaders' personal lives, (3) the field leaders' context, and (4) the essence of being a field leader.
