It draws on both psychodynamic and systems theories because of the combined need for both individual and relational growth. Methods include a literature review, anthropological and cross-cultural analysis, and discussion of case material. The purpose of this project is to give the clergyperson, in this case the rabbi, an appreciation for the religious rite of passage as well as an understanding of its psychoanalytical origins and interpersonal implications.  The project outlines the traditional Jewish approaches as well as the human and practical realities of three particular rites of passage.
