Assimilation is dependent, however, upon the clergy staff having the time required to train, equip, and mentor the laity. Additional time can be gained by implementing a lay congregational care system. This system will ensure that all persons in the congregation will be prayed for daily; contacted weekly; will have a person available for nurture and care in times of crisis; and will be in contact with a person who will be an example of God's grace and the church's love. By utilizing this army of volunteers who are gifted in the area of care and nurture, the clergy staff can equip the saints for ministry. Equipping will be achieved through time spent in a mentoring relationship. During this time every effort will be made to help each person identify their spiritual gifts. Once these gifts are identified, one's passion will come to life and one's calling will become clear. A pretest, posttest survey was used to help determine if the care received helped to bring about the other objectives. These scores did indeed prove to be acceptable. The survey also revealed that the congregation was identifying their gifts and were feeling fulfilled in ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134783760236544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:40:40.494Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:40:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eb487c64-0fb8-4c61-ab05-014610638836","accessControl_ssim":["639bd9c9-7a32-40a3-ba1a-9fa80e1d76ea"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["They will cast out demons: how Christian exorcism is practiced in North America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:51:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c0f53588-37a8-4f52-8f7f-23af5ce83152"],"hasLease_ssim":["c9242c2b-8e01-46b6-83ef-bb4378b6f3bd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Seamands"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael D Mohr"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Exorcism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is an exploratory study utilizing a researcher-designed questionnaire for a criterion-based sample of known Christian exorcists and deliverance ministers who cast out demons in Jesus' name. The model developed includes training for two hours in relational evangelism for all new members joining Aloma United Methodist Church during a three and a half year period. Also included in the model is a month long evangelism event called 'One by One' that consists of praying for one's unchurched friends and giving an invitation to the church-held event. This 'One by One' event was a seeker friendly worship (such as an Easter drama/musical or Sunday morning worship) that occurred once a quarter. Five significant findings emerged from the questionnaires and interviews. First, it is possible to build a self-replicating cycle of visitors through new members once they are trained and are motivated to reach their unchurched friends. Second, the relational evangelism training model helps new members to evangelize their unchurched friends. Third, there are significant impediments to faith sharing, such as the fear of rejection and the belief that evangelism is the responsibility of professionals. Fourth, new members can reach their friends for Jesus. And last, teaching and motivating new members to do relational evangelism produces evangelists."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134050663006208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:01.358Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:25:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0336e100-555e-4a2f-8e24-dd8e78f44585","accessControl_ssim":["1314abac-2db2-4e5e-9db0-8a3402cd2cf0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Gathering a crowd for a first service launch"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:12:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["815d0a8a-5988-4b2c-93a6-8e67ac1ac2dd"],"hasLease_ssim":["40ef3cad-28cb-43cd-82e3-6daa88fd9e0f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Burrell D Dinkins"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Edwin D Locke"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Church attendance"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Currently, little information is available about what has been observed to be the 'critical moment' in the life history of a new church: the first service launch. Subsequent to my appointment to begin a new United Methodist church in Palm Beach county, Florida's fastest growing western edge, my discovery of this void prompted me to consider this as a research subject for my dissertation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the ways a new United Methodist church planted in Palm Beach county, Florida, gathered people for its first service launch. Of particular interest was determining whether or not the development of open-style (join at any time) small groups would enhance attendance at the first service launch. The study primarily considered the quantitative components of crowd-gathering for the first service launch. A researcher designed questionnaire that doubled as an attendance registration form was used to gather the quantitative information needed for this study. The study identified direct mail and kindness-evangelism as the strongest factors enhancing the first service launch attendance. The findings also affirmed the importance of word of mouth communication to friends and family as integral in adding to the first service launch attendance. In this context, the findings also concluded that open small groups did not favorably influence first service launch attendance."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133849420300288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:25:49.438Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:40:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eccecc7e-b200-48eb-9bf1-01c451a11718","accessControl_ssim":["8da76539-dba3-4abf-8394-09e9ffdabda7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Identity or mission: which will guide the BIC into the twenty-first century"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:53:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0784f469-b508-445e-bcf2-0b0dba77dd23"],"hasLease_ssim":["2478538f-2d41-4702-9b19-3b19c1de9aef"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven O'Malley"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Layne A Lebo"],"keyword_tesim":["Brethren in Christ"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Values"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Identity or mission: which will guide the Brethren in Christ into the twenty-first century"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to discover the convictions that guided the founders and early leaders of the Brethren in Christ (BIC) Church and to compare and contrast those convictions with the core values and beliefs of current BIC pastors and leaders. The findings revealed that our team grew in fellowship, in commitment to their own personal discipleship development, and to implementing an intentional process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134054011109376,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:04.551Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:51:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:28:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"245be6e8-97e2-4513-9f3e-1c347be9ad70","accessControl_ssim":["fba69cb1-9ff2-45f8-bca2-afe468a585d4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The relationship between church health and growth: a study of growing churches in the Tennessee District Church of the Nazarene"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:51:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:12:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d47ef310-63ec-4ccd-b0a8-cb5eb65d7ddf"],"hasLease_ssim":["ded7fdc6-ba19-493b-a21e-269157f038ff"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas Tumblin"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rick W Harvey"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church growth","Church of the Nazarene"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In an attempt to understand the relationship between church health and growth, a study was conducted of the ten fastest growing churches in the Tennessee District Church of the Nazarene. This study sought to gather information on successful and unsuccessful transitions by focusing on three participants in each transition: the predecessor, the successor, and the congregation. Twenty pastors from the Western New York Conference of the United Methodist Church were chosen to be interviewed based on meeting the following criteria: 1) full-time pastors appointed at some point in their vocation to succeed a pastor who had served the congregation for nine years or more; 2) for those currently serving in that position, a minimum tenure of two years was required; and 3) for those not currently serving in that position, the term of service needed to have ended within the past five years. Data analysis was based on the transcripts of those interviews. In regard to the three participants in pastoral transitions the major findings included: 1) the choices the predecessor made in relating to the congregation and supporting the new pastor were more important than whether he or she remained in the church and community; 2) a healthy process of grieving and letting go of the predecessor was critical if the congregation was to welcome and follow the new pastor; 3) the incoming pastor's ability to understand the congregation and exert appropriate leadership was essential in each transition. The increasing length of pastorates in the United Methodist Church requires attention to the dynamics of succession following long-term pastorates. This study concludes that more transitions can be successful with the provision of appropriate training that focuses on practical matters and issues of character."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134344002142208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:33:41.108Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:51:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:39:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e0625367-7996-497b-a000-f7122305d190","accessControl_ssim":["75b2e721-8b0a-481e-8fde-3ab3ea8d736f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching for a whole-person response in developing a healthy church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:51:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:33:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["723c8168-279b-4628-a984-f145abc58f9d"],"hasLease_ssim":["fbee98b9-a2e2-4862-9ba7-8e15b96bf0ac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Anthony Headley"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John M Crowe"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In contrast to some, this study sought to present a thoroughly consistent and genuine integration of ecclesiology and systems theory in addressing the subject of church health.
