The participants engaged in church growth opportunities and were surveyed based upon their participation. The project discovered that one of the hindrances to church growth is a lack of personal ownership and commitment of members in a new or existing church. A survey of the Deacons and newer members of the congregation, along with research in mentoring and assimilation, provided materials to the Deacons to design and oversee the program in the congregation. Results demonstrated that family ties and denominational loyalty are not enough. New members need supportive and caring relationships to stay connected to the local church. Those without relationships tended to become inactive or move to another congregation.
