The intent of this dissertation was to better understand visionary leadership, while creating a better comprehension of ways to enhance a pastor's ability to implement this important characteristic of ministry. The model was a five-week Bible study intended to enhance awareness, understanding, and respect of pastors' spiritual authority, as well as to offer guidance in providing nurture and support to pastors.  The model was evaluated by denominational leaders, pastors, and lay persons. This project developed a manual for use by a Mutual Ministry Committee. Eight people from the Great Lakes District Council of the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church evaluated the manual. The research question is: What is the effect of the practice of specific spiritual disciplines upon leadership roles by laity within a local church setting?  A secondary question is: Does the regular practice of these spiritual disciplines promote change in leadership styles?
