It asked if their leadership style was congruent with or impacted by the denomination's theology.  Following an overview of the history and theology of the Brethren in Christ, an argument was presented for servant leadership as the leadership style suited for this denomination.  A biblical basis for servant leadership and the spiritual formation of the leader was developed.  Robert Greenleaf's work on servant leadership was reviewed, and his impact on current leadership practices and their congruence with Christian authors was assessed.  John Ortberg's work was used to develop a scale to measure felt and observed leadership/servant qualities.  The core values of the denomination provided a way to measure the theological commitments of its pastors. The comprehension and expression of such a view is vital to the health, life and testimony of the church. When the church captures a vision for biblical community it will leave a living signature upon the world and experience purpose, fulfillment and joy. This project created a biblical model that was entitled 'Love and Friendship in Relational Community.' The model measured the condition of relationships in the light of biblical principles on community and designed means in which to bring about relational change. The model was analyzed and evaluated externally by a team of experts and internally by a church staff. The author designed and implemented an eight-week parent training curriculum (Growing up Godly: a developmental approach to parenting) for a group at First Church of Christ, Barberton, Ohio.  Participants developed and committed to a personal parenting plan.  Participants completed surveys before instruction began, immediately following the training period, and two and one half months later. Each of the six sessions included prayer, worship, teaching, discussions, devotional material, and weekly assignments.  The nineteen participants (five men and fourteen women) ranged in age from the mid-forties to the mid-eighties.  Class members showed improvement in handling their own feelings about suffering, in their understanding of the importance of the Body of Christ ministering to each other's emotional and spiritual needs, and in skills in responding to their own and others' suffering. The research question is: What is the effect of the practice of specific spiritual disciplines upon leadership roles by laity within a local church setting?  A secondary question is: Does the regular practice of these spiritual disciplines promote change in leadership styles?
