To do otherwise would make the African-American church an accessory after the fact in the plight of African-American men in general, African-American Christian men in particular. He tested this through eight, one-hour, weekly, teaching sessions, a four-hour prayer retreat, and by requiring that participants lead a prayer meeting solo.  The results indicated that participants showed growth toward that end.  The Project Director learned valuable lessons regarding teaching for leadership skills, which is markedly different from teaching for content.
