Therefore, the project director recruited twelve participants for the purpose of enhancing their awareness of and skills for ministering to people with the health-related problems of anorexia and bulimia nervosa, HIV/AIDS, and Alzheimer's disease. These 'remarried' families were found to have many of the same needs as first, or in tact families, but also had unique needs growing out of the circumstances of either death or divorce, and subsequent remarriage. The data was gathered in a parish setting with several remarried families participating in structured interviews. These same families also became a study group using the curriculum that was eventually developed. An extended period of church conflict marked by multiple church splits resulted in a negative inward focus and the subsequent loss of morale and mission. The director facilitated this process by leading the church through a visioning process which culminated in the writing of a church mission statement.
