Each church implemented strengths training after participating in a Gallup Member Engagement Survey (ME25). Mixed methods grounded theory research was used to compare the statistical data from each survey result to the qualitative data obtained from interviews of church members. In May 2010, the congregation took the Gallup ME25 survey. Case studies were conducted on churches that had made similar efforts. A resurvey in November 2011 occurred following efforts to focus on people's strengths. Meaningful increases were found on multiple items with many increased responses. Overall engagement of the congregation increased, while not-engaged and actively disengaged percentages decreased. The objective is to provide a systematic strategy for restoring a declining, dysfunctional and stalled church to a growing, healthy and vibrant congregation. The field research involved case studies. Though every case study was unique, every church was found to have utilized seven turnaround factors in its revitalization. The desperation and urgency of the church resulted in a more immediate and less difficult turnaround process. Socio-cultural misunderstanding hampers relational harmony and ministry effectiveness in affected churches. In response to this problem, the researcher surveyed rurban leaders in three geographic regions of the United States, identified the major recurrent components of the rurban collision, and made recommendations to church leaders concerning how to effectively lead in the presence of rurban socio-cultural tension. This project is qualitative in nature; case study research was the primary methodology employed. A biblical theology of inter-cultural community was defined focusing on spirituality, hospitality, and missionality. Ethnographic tools were utilized to determine the emic perspective of the multi-cultural setting of Bethel Christian Fellowship. Characteristics of inter-cultural leaders in a multi-cultural setting were discovered. Transformational dynamics needed to shift a local church to an inter-cultural mindset were described. Traits of the generations are discovered through literature review and field research, using the grounded theory method. Second, mission is described with eight viral factors that caused the spontaneous expansion of the early church. Third, the researcher created strategies to maximize the traits of the generations by reviewing which traits are leverageable or prohibitive related to the viral factors. Generational entelechies are discovered and generational cultures are defined to build a whole-church multi-generational missional culture.
