Using a Likard scale research instrument to survey growing and plateaued churches, the project questioned these congregations about witness, service, fellowship, maturity, and worship. Utilizing guidelines of clear, shared vision for ministry developed for this project, judicatory officials recommended target churches for participation.  Leadership from each congregation completed three research instruments. Results were used to establish a positive correlation between vision for ministry and the presence of higher morale, a future orientation and a higher level of concern for those outside the local church. This project tests the presence of nine ministry models or role-sets in the Conference through a random survey of senior pastors, laity, Bethel Seminary faculty, national and district leaders. A detailed decadal statistical study of its largest 200 churches was made along with demographic and other cultural data to illustrate the trends that are presently acting upon its ministry. Several sources for clarifying the developmental issues of seminary students were discussed.  The primary developmental issues of Bethel seminarians were identified as: interpersonal relationships, personal and professional identity, human sexuality, and spiritual formation.  Spiritual formation was selected for additional evaluation.  A more effective response to this need was suggested in light of recent A.T.S. projects on spiritual formation and the developing theory of spiritual formation (e.g. Fowler and others).  A student personnel model for student development was used which incorporates three change strategies: instruction, consultation, and milieu management.
