By using a semantic differential technique, responses to both metaphorical and propositional language were measured. The function of metaphor is examined in regard to clarity, emotion, beauty, imagination, detail, meaning and appeal. Both the statistical significance and practical significance of this are discussed.  The relationship of analogous language to cerebral specialization and logical positivism is noted. A survey was taken of a number of churches and pastors in urban, suburban and rural areas to gain an understanding of the relationship of preaching to moral decision making.  Out of this a determination of satisfaction with pulpit ministry was compared to satisfaction with other pastoral functions.
