As understood and practiced in the local church evangelism is in critical condition.  Evangelism is an unfriendly word.  Leadership's challenge is to discover and implement a fresh approach.  Bethany Church, located in growing southern New Hampshire, developed a strategy stressing disciple-making rather than decision-making. Using community assessment and a congregational survey, Bethany created a paradigm to reclaim the evangelistic enterprise by: expanding the vision; equipping the people; targeting the audience; and incorporating the newcomer. Every Christian is called to enter into the church for the purpose of serving Christ in the world.  But there is a gap between the calling and the fulfillment of the calling which can only be filled by intentional education for discipleship. Praxis education methodologies help fill this gap between calling and fulfillment.  Using a core committee, a praxis education experience was designed and implemented in an attempt to provide an alternative to teacher/curriculum centered education in the local church. The Study Guide designed by the author for this project report was used in a group of eight persons.  The Study Guide was structured to assist the participants in a learning process towards growth.  It was a learning process that merged the cognitive (empirical knowledge of six selected Psalms) with the affective (the participant's feelings while responding to the emotional utterances of the psalmist).  It was a learning experience that proved to be different for most of the participants in that it was a spiritual growth experience. The report outlines biblical and theological bases for the concept of counseling through preaching.  Methodology entailed determination of issues people wanted addressed; preparation of sermons based on those concerns and summarizing feedback received by several means.
