Employing conversational, semistructured interviews and a demographic questionnaire, the project finds two primary sources of stress: feelings of powerlessness in the appointment process and economic entrapment in the wife's career. Current needs and practices within the Baltimore and Peninsula Annual Conferences (Washington area) of the United Methodist Church are investigated. The investigative research for the study was obtained through the use of field interviews and two direct mail surveys. The field research survey questionnaires were mailed to clergy and their spouses who had relocated with the Baltimore and Peninisula Conferences within a four year period.  Findings are presented and evaluated.
