Seven persons who helped start and continue this church for the poor and homeless were interviewed regarding what influenced their involvement in this mission. Wesleyan, Methodist, theological and other influences were implicitly indicated in their responses. More explicit theological reflection was used to enhance an understanding of this ministry. The program used directed spiritual exercises related to self-disclosure coupled with the writing and sharing of spiritual autobiographies to help the participants to develop closer relationships with each other. The project explored biblical literature pertaining to relationships among the Trinity as well as New Testament literature concerning relationships among humans. It also explored literature pertaining to Western cultural expectations of men as they affect men's relationships and literature relevant to self-disclosure among men. Randomization was used to form the experimental and the control groups from volunteer pastors. There was no significant difference found between the means of the groups in their answers to the Interpersonal Behavior Survey. The only exceptions were the Infrequency, the Initiating Assertiveness and the Requesting Help scales. All the goals of the AT were accomplished. The research employed a descriptive/historical research design to obtain self-reported observations to open-end variable in a 'command' approved 'Hymnal Revision Questionnaire.' The literature review seeks to demonstrate the thesis theoretically.  In practice, the thesis is demonstrated quantitatively and qualitatively by the use of a questionnaire and interviews with patients. The following areas were examined: acceptance of the chaplain's ministry, the chaplain's supportive ministry, the chaplain's ministry to help the patient cope, and the chaplain's ministry to the patient's private concerns.  The findings demonstrate that there is a high level of satisfaction with each aspect of pastoral care. A cross-disciplinary model of hope was constructed using the writings of philosophers Bloch and Marcel, theologian Moltmann and psychologist Erikson. Secondly, using the Snyder Hope Scale, the Cooper-Smith Self Esteem Sale and Paloutzian and Ellison's Spiritual Well-Being Scale, the study tested the model by investigating the relationship amongst hope, self esteem and spiritual well-being in Australian students.  Subjects were 414 students from undergraduate programs offered by Australian Catholic University.  The study found that students had a high degree of hope, expressing this in goal-related thoughts and in action for social justice. The project builds on a qualitative analysis of theological and clinical research on priestly identity, and the etiology and treatment of the disease of alcoholism.  Through the development and use of a clinical questionnaire seventeen clinicians from a major treatment center give recommendations for treatment and the implications for the wider diocesan community.  Involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous is stressed as part of this holistic response. These perspectives are brought into dialogue as they elucidate the story that unfolded in an interview with one former client who has cut. A review of the literature on (1) Generation X and their spiritual and religious needs (2) pastoral ministry to this population, and (3) ministry in military was completed.  Qualitative data on the needs of this population was gathered in discussion groups of Generation X personnel in the Air Force.
