In what appears as an oscillating wave of interest/disinterest, the greatest challenge for the church today has become the ability to recognize these changes and to respond missionally as the people of God. After conducting research into the Baptist heritage of religious freedom, the author conducted educational events in five Baptist congregations in southeastern North Carolina in which he shared part of the Baptist story in this regard.
