It chronicles the writer's five-year history of writing such materials, proposes series of weekly themes based on a study of the pericopes appointed for the Sundays in Advent, and offers guidelines for those who would write such materials. The paper uses the Wesleyan quadrilateral and an analysis of the local church setting as a basis for establishing role priorities.  The paper includes ten attributes which the writer considers essential for effective ministry.  Senior ministers should take into account their strengths and weaknesses regarding these attributes in order to establish priorities in a realistic and practical manner.
