The author contends that by teaching one's contract for communication in preaching to the congregation, the listener will be able to perceive in advance the import of a forthcoming message.  Such teaching and preparation enables more effective listening to sermons and better equips the listener for ministry. The task of the Christian fund raiser is to nurture such giving.  That is accomplished by approaching the fund raising task with a biblical theology of humankind and the church. From a theological perspective, he concludes that the ministry is given to all believers at their baptism. In this trinitarian understanding of stewardship, Christian stewards are empowered through baptism to live as little Christs.  One of the critical needs is to reground stewardship in baptismal theology.  Baptismal theology also reveals the need for interpersonal relationships among God's people.  Without interpersonal relationships it is almost impossible to communicate and teach wholistic stewardship. A long-range plan for engaging a church in intentional friendship evangelism is proposed.
