Assuming that some uses are better than others, the project seeks indices for evaluating materials, personnel and programs related to the lectionary. A form of factor analysis is judged the most appropriate method for discovering the indices.  An interpretive perspective is illuminated by a contrast between two distinct theological currents within contemporary Catholicism.  The lectionary is situated within one current, as are its appropriate religious education uses.  Data gathered in sixty-one interviews are reported and interpreted. Using a phenomenological approach, he compares and contrasts his lectionary usage within this church to both his own formulations upon proper lectionary usage and systematic usage of the Bible in worship in the early Lutheran, Reformed, and Anglican traditions.  As a theoretical base the author assumes a 'subjectivity of knowing' foundation. Based upon this foundation, the author devises a method of analysis employing an 'integrative matrix', consisting of 'perceiving', 'describing', 'conceiving', and 'communicating'.
