The research involved a Likert-type questionnaire, open-ended comments and personal interviews (39) completed by a combined total of 204 persons, 60 pastors and 144 lay persons.  The study demonstrates that the pastoral relations committees are an effective means of support and feedback for ministry and serve, secondarily, but helpfully, in the area of personnel matters.  The pastoral relations committees theological framework relies heavily upon 'unconditional acceptance'.  The author recommends further theological development focused on the stewardship of gifts. The project studies four groups within congregational life.  Intervention is primarily in the form of a workshop-seminar for officers and other laity of the church.  The project uses the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.  One hundred one persons responded to the test instrument.  Several variables serve as means for comparing data with standard analyses. These are that when a preacher and the persons listening to his or her sermon are of the same personlality type the response to the sermon by the listener will be more positive than when their types differ; and when a preacher and those persons listening to his or her sermon are of differing personality types communication is impeded. Data was gathered by using both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and eight sermons preached with the same congregation during one twelve-week period.
