The instrument used in this research was the Family Environment Scale (FES) which measures family environment in three major dimensions: Relationship, Personal Growth, and System Maintenance. Dimensions are divided into the following ten subscales: Cohesion; Expressiveness; Conflict; Independence; Achievement Orientation; Intellectual-Cultural Orientation; Active Recreational Orientation; Moral-Religious Emphasis; Organization; and Control. Through analysis of variance, it was determined that there were significant differences between officer and enlisted families in two areas, which were Intellectual-Cultural Orientation and Control, and that there were differences approaching statistical significance in the areas of Conflict and Active Recreational Orientation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125908342439936,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:19:36.236Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:19:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"145fefa8-907e-4bc3-a2c5-7a0f671907f1","accessControl_ssim":["72d04291-a719-4562-a7bb-57172f5858ab"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Faith development: James Fowler's stages seen in a Quaker context"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:43:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b0f3d5b0-e910-4928-ac41-de36bdfdf505"],"hasLease_ssim":["c6d5e181-bd43-43ac-bbe7-2303dad9ae55"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["James B Ashbrook"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"location_tesim":["New York (State)--Rochester"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Pamela Mark-Whitley"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Society of Friends","Faith","Fowler, James W"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is an exploratory thesis/project to use Fowler's structural-developmental faith stage theory on Quaker subjects. Three members of the Rochester Friends Meeting were interviewed twice: once in 1979 and again in 1981. The open-ended interviews were designed to provide sufficient information to locate the individuals in their respective faith stages. In addition, the history of New York Yearly Meeting was examined in the context of Fowler's stages to establish the modal context of the Society. The modal context of the Yearly Meeting was seen as Stage 4, with individuals interviewed spread in Stages 3, 4, and 5. The individual in Stage 3 was the birthright member of the Society, while the other two joined as adults. Although conclusions cannot be drawn on such a small study, it is speculated that the structures of the Society do not impel a person's development beyond Stage 3. Apparently, other life events must provide the stimulus for development. The mode of Stage 4 for New York Yearly Meeting seems largely to result from the preponderence of adult members who have joined the Society rather than being built into faith-nurturing structures."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717521955225600,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:19:37.475Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:13:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:46:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"19de3dcc-e65d-41b0-bea7-2b231576c778","accessControl_ssim":["4940ecf2-dcc0-41eb-abaf-938e371eceb9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A theology of vulnerability"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:12:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:53:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["03f78b90-5da5-49a2-9fbf-4021fb865bbb"],"hasLease_ssim":["ecc8b18f-f582-4182-b0f1-0345003440be"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["W Kenneth Cauthen"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert William Lamson"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["God--Fatherhood","Grace (Theology)","Faith","Jesus Christ","God--Love","Heart--Religious aspects","Androgyny"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis is to show that the symbol of heart (leb) in the Old Testament, reaches its fruition in Jesus the Christ; that is, Jesus standing in a congruent historical relationship with the covenant community of Israel epitomizes the vulnerable heart. Furthermore, Jesus, as epitomizing this symbol, demonstrates that the most significant characteristic of the heart is its vulnerableness to the love of God. Therefore, a secondary premise of this thesis is that human vulnerability, as a posture of faith, is essential to human self-fulfillment. Being penetrated is not necessarily a contradiction to be avoided but can lead to opportunities for human growth and entrance intod the Kingdom of God. In line with this premise, Jesus has been interpreted (functionally) as the Mediator who reveals the Fatherhood of God as grace and compassion on the one hand and, on the other, that the true posture of faith is seen as a vulnerable heart. The last chapter argues that the Fatherhood of God, revealed in Jesus as compassion and grace, contains feminine characteristics which posit genuine vulnerabiity of God's nature which can be held together in an androgynous model."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715430997164032,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:23.381Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:12:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:17:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"45f9af34-e8cb-4df6-9850-1dd424eaa9c1","accessControl_ssim":["e16cf6b1-4b7a-426b-9130-53f67d0b8a7d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A pastoral awareness of dreams in the age thirty transition in women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:12:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:10:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6dff330f-66f4-49fc-9b7a-c9e7456174b8"],"hasLease_ssim":["c6e4d69c-6bcd-4c90-b070-f25f70561ab8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert J Page"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph Urban Goss"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Women","Pastoral counseling","Adler, Alfred, 1870-1937","Psychology","Freud, Sigmund, 1856-1939","Jung, C. Its importance lies primarily in the fact that it can be utilized by the pastor while counseling in the local church. The theory and practice of dream use has been used largely in the present century by psychoanalysts for the treatment of psychological illness. This is the first attempt in a doctoral thesis to apply dream sequences of healthy females to the developmental tasks of the life structure for use by pastors in counseling. It is my belief that the intentional awareness of the use of dreams can provide an approach to the care of parishioners which enriches all elements of the counseling process. The report progresses through seven stages: the theory of dream interpretation; the developmental stages in personality development; the development in the life structure of males; a parallel segment of development in the life structure of females in the age 30 transition; the application of dream reports to the developmental structure of females; the methodology; and the theoretical application for the use of dream reports in the context of pastoral care."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721190618562560,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:17:56.185Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:11:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:48:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"90cee7a5-0017-4de3-b7a4-8ce72deb9a05","accessControl_ssim":["7ecb868e-5fd5-4d1c-9814-50af13ef2963"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A comforting congregation: a program for training lay christians in ministering to the dying and grieving"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:11:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:22:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ace59ba-492e-4838-b911-cd998fc5dc9d"],"hasLease_ssim":["f58426ca-0e41-45c1-844f-cba5ff9340f6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter N VandenBerge"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Paul Cameron"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Grief","Congregations","Laity","Terminal care","Bereavement","Death"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Thesis Project Report articulates a need for a lay ministry to dying and grieving persons and presents complete teaching plans and materials for a ten-session, sixteen hour program for training lay Christians in such a ministry through a variety of lectures, discussions, films, exercises, and visits with recently bereaved persons and a funeral home. It describes the selection of training groups from four different Protestant churches of various sizes, with a total of forty-one participants, uses five instruments to gather evaluative data on the effects of the training on the participants, presents and evaluates the results, and draws conclusions. The evaluative data includes opinion and feelings reported by the participants and their pastors, together with a pre and post questionnaire on attitudes and a report of the participants' involvement in such ministry in the year after training. The pre and post questionnaire showed several changes in the participants' understandings of how people respond to terminal illness, death, and grief, and in participants' attitudes about their own deaths. It uses questionnaires and personal interviews to obtain information from Roman Catholic and Protestant parents who have recently lost a child. Analysis of the data yields the following major results: 1) There is mixed support for the hypotheses that extreme degrees of religious beliefs and activities lead to more intense grief reactions, to less successful resolution of grief than a moderate degree of religious beliefs and activities. Religious value orientation was significantly associated with high frequency of crying but not with felt need to cry. Neither the respondents' intrinsic religious value score nor the extent of their being extrinsically active or inactive in church had an effect on successful resolution of grief. 2) Female respondents tend to be more religious than males. 3) More males tend to have accepted their loss.
