This project addresses the hurt and pain of the minority group at Grace First Presbyterian Church as result of this change and the need to engage in the practice of healing and reconciliation. Utilizing ethnographic research as a pastoral practice, through practices of listening and discerning, the congregation will engage in co-authoring the future. Weber's bureaucracy provides a lens to explore the congregation's current organizational self-understanding. Then, the study employs Lathrop's primary symbol of assembly to design and introduce a new structure. Church members were interviewed before and after the training to assess shifts in their organizational self-understanding. Barth's understanding of covenant-partner with God in the upbuilding of the church and Deming's management theory both address the difficulties and necessity of the integration of the individual into the work of the whole.  Research focuses on Karl Barth's theological anthropology and his view of the upbuilding of the church and the management theory of W Edwards Deming.
