It is a case study of members of a particular congregation who have lived through some storms in their lives and have experienced a sense of renewal and commitment to follow and serve Jesus Christ. This project focused on a congregation in transition. The author explored the use of resources from the 'missional church' conversation. She used the 'Three Zone Model of Missional Leadership' and 'The Missional Change Model' by Roxburgh and Romanuk in a process of participatory action research. Attention was paid to the role that renewal of baptismal identity and worship play in helping a congregation transition toward missional identity. Worship is one aspect of congregational life where the values of Western secular culture are deeply embedded; changing the expectations surrounding worship may be pivotal for the deeper transformation of congregational culture from an inward, institution-maintaining focus to an outward, missional orientation. This project is a case study of one congregation where such transformation is already underway. During a six-month period, twenty-four lay leaders utilized Participatory Action Research by engaging in cycles of planning, action, and reflection. Findings from the project included characteristics of effective leadership, leadership expectations, and the importance of resolute action to achieve initiatives for revitalization. This project considers one congregation's exercise in experiential learning, from within their context, that promoted the church's missional discernment and community life.  Nine congregational members joined with the outside researcher to form a community-based action research team. Factors as racial, historical, ethnic, and biblical/theological perspectives are components of developing a tactic toward change. Redevelopment provides a program for encountering the reasons and discovering the means of change. This project names what else is necessary for a thorough spiritual and physical transformation of congregations to become the church in mission and ministry as reformed by God. Biblical exegesis, theological exploration of convictional experiences and the function and patterns of conflict and crisis are explored in relation to redevelopment case studies.
