These new styles foster an 'entertainment culture,' thus producing Christians who have a limited knowledge of both scriptures, the salvation story, and the sacraments. This entertainment culture also nurtures superficial and passive responses to critical issues in the lives of members. The contention is that reclaiming the centrality of sacraments in worship will nurture the capacity of church members to respond more authentically and actively to issues in their lives and the social context. More specifically, it is suggested that both the preparation for and the practice of the sacraments deepens descipleship and creates a contextually relevant worship experience. A survey of Reformed theologians discusses the centrality of word and sacraments."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127857491083264,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:50:35.089Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:14:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:50:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"313ed0fd-4ccc-4f83-bcc8-feb36f314aa8","accessControl_ssim":["5daa82b4-2c56-42d4-8d8d-cba7614b4a22"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Can transition lead to transformation?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:14:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["185ae8dc-44ed-4ec6-9214-1e90dc31b5f3"],"hasLease_ssim":["1e60caed-4566-4d41-8ea4-d6e52111db10"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen Hayner"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christine R Jerrett"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Organizational change","Congregations","Worship","Church renewal","Identity (Psychology)--Religious aspects--Christianity","Missions--Theory"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Traditional mainline congregations need resources as they address the challenges of a changing context. Particular worship connections are described, as is a hermeneutics of worship that offers guidance for authentic and faithful worship during paradigm shifts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128058980204544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:53:47.244Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:36:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:21:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f3ed363f-bb3a-4daf-97f1-e80c81eeb491","accessControl_ssim":["71b6c518-f7b8-475e-9540-4e0929af241b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Worship into wine: an invitation to re-discover Reformed worship as the work of the people through the practice of personal piety"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:36:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:05:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2b4dec6c-95e9-4da9-a849-40758be4e8ba"],"hasLease_ssim":["eda022f9-fd94-4da0-8845-78dea75cb91d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Erskine Clarke"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sue S Dickson"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Piety","Worship","Presbyterian Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The desire to revitalize Reformed worship in Presbyterian churches engenders ongoing debates. This project discusses some cultural issues underlying those debates and describes an experiment in seeking to revitalize Reformed worship through personal piety among church leaders within a particular congregation. Adults once distanced from the church have an open door to the church provided them as well as a new place for service and participation.  Children of diverse ages are provided both a new forum for active participation and a time for worship. All those involved are given a new context in which to participate in the narrative message of the gospel which claims seekers and believers in ways which nurture faith and stimulate the enterprise of raising children with biblical faith.  This event, called church school worship, meets contemporary social and religious needs especially prevalent among baby boomer parents. It can serve as a vital and creative tool within a comprehensive family ministry of a local congregation.  This study is an analysis of social and theological aspects of the need and purpose of such a worship service as it has been carried out under the auspices of Davidson College Presbyterian Church (Davidson, North Carolina)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128361857187840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:36.090Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":14,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Anna Virginia Dempsey","hits":1,"label":"Anna Virginia Dempsey"},{"value":"Charles C Heyward","hits":1,"label":"Charles C Heyward"},{"value":"Christine R Jerrett","hits":1,"label":"Christine R Jerrett"},{"value":"Christopher Lyle Crotwell","hits":1,"label":"Christopher Lyle Crotwell"},{"value":"Donald Dale Nations","hits":1,"label":"Donald Dale Nations"},{"value":"Henry G Kaira","hits":1,"label":"Henry G Kaira"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Theology, Reformed","hits":1,"label":"Theology, Reformed"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Worship","hits":14,"label":"Worship"},{"value":"Christian education","hits":3,"label":"Christian education"},{"value":"Liturgics","hits":3,"label":"Liturgics"},{"value":"Church renewal","hits":2,"label":"Church renewal"},{"value":"Missions--Theory","hits":2,"label":"Missions--Theory"},{"value":"Presbyterian Church","hits":2,"label":"Presbyterian Church"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":14,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":14,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":14,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1994","hits":3,"label":"1994"},{"value":"2007","hits":2,"label":"2007"},{"value":"2010","hits":2,"label":"2010"},{"value":"2012","hits":2,"label":"2012"},{"value":"1992","hits":1,"label":"1992"},{"value":"1995","hits":1,"label":"1995"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":14,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":14,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":14,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":14,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":2,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":2,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":14,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":false}}}
