The literature review (including present-day experiences) reveals however, that this is a real phenomenon that must be understood and confronted. This project uses questionnaires and interviews to reveal the ignorance and fears existing among Christian leaders and congregations, while many suffer in our midst. I believe preaching can facilitate this formation. yet in order for the people of God to be formed, I believe the preachers must be formed. What impact does the intentional spiritual formation of P.C. (U.S.A.) preachers in northeast Ohio have on their preaching? Specifically, if they are better able to discern God's activity and will, will their preaching be more effective? They suggest that the practice of communal Bible study may be the key to re-forming the witness of local congregations. This project applies a missional hermeneutic, through the use of particular study questions, to the practice of communal Bible study in a local congregation. Discoveries made by participants are consistent with a 'missional church' understanding. Talking about it has not brought it into practice. This project focuses upon the particular vocation of law enforcement and draws upon common topics identified through formal interviews, conversation, and participatory observation.
