Using qualitative research methods, this study explored principles and practices of proficient pastors who help congregants towards spiritual maturity through preaching.The literature review and analysis of interviews failed to identify preaching strategies that ensured congregants' maturity. This study was designed using applied qualitative research, specifically a case study of six men who participated in a discipleship group for nine months. This qualitative study was designed to observe the impact such a class would have on a small group.  The format was group discussion based on class handouts of questions with both written and practical assignments.  All participants were interviewed twice, and four were selected for a final interview.  Impact varied highly, but was generally limited by both the course length and the lack of one-on-one time.
