Using qualitative research methods and a semi-structured protocol to interview six founding pastors, this study explored how pastors negotiate these leadership challenges. Four research questions guided the research: (1) What leadership challenges do Presbyterian pastors face? (2) How do pastors experience challenges? The researcher identified three areas that are central to this process: reproducible evangelism and discipleship, reproducible church planting, and reproducible leadership. The researcher studied the effect of short cycle multiplicative discipleship growth, rather than simple church incremental growth, focusing on instances where the pastor utilized the CPM methodology. The study employed a qualitative design, using semi-structured interviews with nine demographically diverse pastors from five different denominations. The unit of analysis was the method used for successful discipleship multiplication, and the data was analyzed using the constant comparative method. For the purpose of qualitative research, ten planters and five others participated in informal semi-structured interviews. This study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with eight pastors and some spouses. The review of literature examined scripture, Christian and secular literature regarding ministry and marriage. The interviews focused on how church planting impacts the planters, spouses and their marriages. The review of literature and analysis of interviews with church planters focused on three key areas of planting churches that affect pastors: the church planter as a man, the church planter's message, and the church planter's mission. In the area of the church planter as a man, the findings revealed that the church planter must be biblically qualified and spiritually gifted. In the area of the church planter's message, the findings demonstrated that the church planter must preach the gospel from all of scripture. In the area of the church planter's mission, the study determined that the church planter must join the mission of God by incarnating the gospel in culturally understandable ways. This is also a study in encouraging possible future planting pastors and lay people who are struggling with reluctance whether to leave the safety of a mother church and listen for the call to be part of a birthed daughter church. The purpose of this study is to examine how mother churches overcome their reluctance in planting daughter churches in the suburban context. My research questions that will guide me will be: 1. What are the characteristics of the reluctance on the part of a mother church in planting a daughter church? 2. How were those issues addressed in those churches? 3.
