The research consisted of a qualitative study in which five families which include a mentally handicapped child were interviewed separately to explore their experiences with God and with local churches. Conflict between parents who educate children at home and those who do not often stems from pride and legalism in both parties. Churches that emphasize Christ-centered liberty in education choices and teach covenantal responsibilities of parents toward children experience fewer conflicts.
