Gender distinction distinguishes Christian marriage, but its impact on emotional intimacy, critical in contemporary marriage, is under-studied. A qualitative study of ten Christian husbands in enduring intergendered marriages yet with a history of same-sex attraction or monogendered relationships, considered able spokesmen for gender effects, confirmed the power of intimacy to forge a lasting marriage. Wives' gender distinction correlated with intimacy, expressed through authority deferral, home care and strong helping. The study was comprised of interviews of couples who have been married for twenty-five years or longer. This study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with seven Christian couples. The study revealed that these couples work through conflict respectfully and gently. They convey acceptance and respect in the midst of working through disagreements. Many pastors leave their place of ministry before they reach their most productive years. Much of the effort to develop ways to sustain effective ministry focuses on the pastor. This study has focused on the spouse of the pastor. The particular focus of this study has been on the phenomenon of the expectations surrounding the pastor usually known as the role of 'pastor's wife'. This present study took advantage of an opportunity to access the data from the Pastor's Summit which was a qualitative research study funding by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Through this present study it was learned that much can be learned about the phenomenon of the role of 'pastor's wife' through the study of systems theory. Those who find themselves in the role of 'pastor's wife' can also benefit from resources relating to family of origin, emotional intelligence, as well as how to identify safe people and develop healthy relationships. This study was conducted to determine the affect, if any, of church participation on the quality of and satisfaction in marriage. Six couples who take an active part in church activities were interviewed and the results of their experiences were studied. These results showed a positive influence of their church activity on their respective marriages. Several of the reasons found for this positive feeling were hope and support, giving of oneself, friends and social engagements, and an overall good attitude toward marriage and life in general. From the findings, the seminary may evaluate and modify the existing marriage preparation education of her students. An extensive survey covering all three aspects of clergy and premarital counseling listed above, was mailed to 150 randomly selected graduates. The perspective of the vast majority of pastors in this study is that clergy are the primary providers of premarital counseling and they believe it should be required of all engaged couples.  In keeping with previous research, most of the pastors in this study claim that their seminary preparation in premarital counseling was inadequate. Less than 25 percent received a class or seminar, while about 60 percent claim to have had a unit in premarital counseling.  Only about one third of the resondents were exposed to a structured premarital counseling program and the same percentage of respondents were trained to use premarital counseling assessment instruments. Since pastors continue to provide a significant link between the church and the family, there continues to be a critical need today for seminaries and theological institutions to better educate and equip them to provide effective premarital counseling ministries in their churches.
