This dissertation is divided into three main parts. A literature review examines what has been written about the founding of other Bible institutes along with the Bible institutes' contribution to the discipleship process. The research procedure defines the case study subject selection process and criteria. It also describes the survey questionnaire and its use. The case studies report the information gathered primarily through first hand interviews and local archival church records. The data was recorded, reviewed and reported so that any church that wishes to start a Bible institute may use this dissertation as a guide to address and overcome the challenges they may face. This project concluded that Bible institutes can contribute to a church's discipleship program. Participants can get a thorough and meaningful exposure to the Word of God, which, in turn, helps in their personal spiritual growth and ministry preparedness. Future research is welcomed in this field. Though an ample body of literature exists concerning the history of Bible institutes and Christian education as a whole, little information has been written that specifically addresses the challenges faced by churches starting Bible institutes and how those challenges were overcome. This research makes an original contribution in this area by identifying those challenges and offering solutions which other churches may follow."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130047236538368,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:23.393Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:25:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:31:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7344680d-75a4-4309-a51c-37a002f36bbc","accessControl_ssim":["a9a69c61-492a-4c9c-b255-b9496c97d03b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Case studies of assimilation programs in selected churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:25:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:30:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["18f7f85c-a390-476f-a166-12a18d0789a6"],"hasLease_ssim":["0cf2625e-0413-4271-8430-a01c7a043996"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jerry C Wofford","John W Reed"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David O Setiawan"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Assimilation (Sociology)","Church membership","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["For believers, Christ's calling and commission includes three parts: 'Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men' (Mark 1:17, Luke 5:10), 'Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations' (Matthew 28:19-20), and 'Take care of my sheep' (John 21:15-17). When all three of these components become daily repeated experiences the believers are assimilated. This project has four main components. First, a biblical study intended to determine the biblical assimilation principles that effectually work in believers' lives. Second, a literature study to discover the theological factors that affect the assimilation process of believers into the functioning body. Third, two case studies of American leading churches through survey questionnaires and onsite interviews and observation. Fourth, the results of the studies are the functional factors in formulating the assimilation principles for the Chinese Bible Church of Jakarta, Indonesia. From the assimilation and church growth literature review and the biblical study ten significant assimilation principles were selected for this study. Each principle was present in the first century church (Acts 2:42-47) and in the life of Christ. These ten include: (1) prayer, (2) pastoral leadership, (3) lay leadership, (4) vision, (5) small groups, (6) spiritual gifts, (7) discipleship, (8) evangelism, (9) preaching and teaching, and (10) worship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130464411451392,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:32:01.242Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f7e0909e-7887-48f2-ad3d-cad679f7d41b","accessControl_ssim":["0ec1c727-c469-448c-ac25-716f1256ace9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Development and evaluation of a course in personal Bible study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:12:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4593da0e-9bd9-49c2-b5c8-ec2d13545c1b"],"hasLease_ssim":["e68ead2f-a075-4a20-9348-b857578d91e7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark S Young"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tony L Carr"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Christian education--Teaching methods","Spiritual formation","Christian education","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many experience the value of God's Word today as a treasure and His gift to man.  Yet many today neglect it.  This project provides one means of seeking to address this problem.  This research measured the value of training people to study the Bible, specifically whether developmental training in personal Bible study methods would improve student attitudes toward their personal Bible study.  It also measured whether the training would improve student habits in their personal Bible study. Following the development of the training course and the curriculum to be used, the research was designed to utilize a survey questionnaire constructed with a Likert-scale of response options.  It also included multiple-choice options, as well as reverse scored items.  The survey data were gathered for two class groups and a non-trained control group to increase the breadth of sample survey and comparison. The survey was used as a pre-test and post-test within the class groups, but only as a post-test with the control group.  Additional qualitative data were gathered through focus group feedback from each class group and instruments that utilized open-ended questions, specifically -- a Bible study inventory that was used as a pre-test and post-test and a self-reported post-course evaluation form.  This study found that the training was effective in improving the habits of Bible study for one class group.  It was also effective in improving student habits and skills of relating the Bible to one's life and world for one class group.  The research showed the training was not effective in improving the attitudes of students in either class."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131220980006912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:44:02.762Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"David O Setiawan","hits":1,"label":"David O Setiawan"},{"value":"Richard C Dodson","hits":1,"label":"Richard C Dodson"},{"value":"Tony L Carr","hits":1,"label":"Tony L Carr"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Bible--Study","hits":3,"label":"Bible--Study"},{"value":"Assimilation (Sociology)","hits":1,"label":"Assimilation (Sociology)"},{"value":"Christian education","hits":1,"label":"Christian education"},{"value":"Christian education of adults","hits":1,"label":"Christian education of adults"},{"value":"Christian education--Teaching methods","hits":1,"label":"Christian education--Teaching methods"},{"value":"Christian universities and colleges--Administration","hits":1,"label":"Christian universities and colleges--Administration"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":3,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Dallas Theological Seminary","hits":3,"label":"Dallas Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":3,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2005","hits":1,"label":"2005"},{"value":"2006","hits":1,"label":"2006"},{"value":"2010","hits":1,"label":"2010"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Dallas Theological Seminary","hits":3,"label":"Dallas Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Dallas Theological Seminary","hits":3,"label":"Dallas Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":3,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":3,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
