The project evaluated the effectiveness of a four-week seminar in educating Christian women on the topic of spiritual gifts. This course assisted the women in the discovery of their spiritual gifts and aided in identifying ministries in which they were gifted to serve. This course of study focused on spiritual gifts and their functions for women who may or may not have known of their spiritual gifts and may or may not have served in ministries or were serving in ministries outside of their spiritual giftedness in the church. By taking thirty Christian women, ages nineteen and older of various church denominations through this course of study, the women gained knowledge of spiritual gifts.  A pre-test/post-test was administered to the students to gauge their knowledge of spiritual gifts before and following instruction. This data revealed an increase in knowledge of spiritual gifts. This research and development of an eight-week theology class for the church is framed in three hypotheses: (1) After this class, church members will have an increased knowledge and understanding of essential doctrines of the Christian faith, (2) After this class, church members will be able to communicate the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, and (3) After this class, church members will value theological understanding more than they did before the class. The desire to do this research comes from the biblical mandate given by the Lord Jesus Christ to make disciples (Matt 28:19-20). Developing God's people into leaders who demonstrate Christ-like character is not only the greatest need in the world today, but also in today's church; therefore, developing competent spiritual leadership through discipleship must be its top priority. The following questions are answered: What can churches do to prepare men and women to develop into godly leaders? What can Waukegan Community Church do to become a disciple-making reproducing church? Will Discipleship for leadership make a significant contribution in helping Waukegan Community Church become a disciple-making, leader-developing church? This dissertation is divided into three main parts. A literature review examines what has been written about the founding of other Bible institutes along with the Bible institutes' contribution to the discipleship process. The research procedure defines the case study subject selection process and criteria. It also describes the survey questionnaire and its use. The case studies report the information gathered primarily through first hand interviews and local archival church records. The data was recorded, reviewed and reported so that any church that wishes to start a Bible institute may use this dissertation as a guide to address and overcome the challenges they may face. This project concluded that Bible institutes can contribute to a church's discipleship program. Participants can get a thorough and meaningful exposure to the Word of God, which, in turn, helps in their personal spiritual growth and ministry preparedness. Future research is welcomed in this field. Though an ample body of literature exists concerning the history of Bible institutes and Christian education as a whole, little information has been written that specifically addresses the challenges faced by churches starting Bible institutes and how those challenges were overcome. The project develops a paradigm from the Epistles, which it then implements and evaluates for its effectiveness. A literature search from the gospels and other relevant sources, both ancient and contemporary, demonstrates this model. This model was designed and tested with adult ministry leaders. The categories of questions were derived from scripture and used in a fashion similar to that of the master teacher, Jesus. The result of the project is a model of interaction that is biblically supported, historically validated and experientially reliable. This model, when applied, enhances educational feedback and personal awareness and therefore leads to greater understanding. The value of learning is enhanced in all settings.
