As the project developed into this dissertation, testing was used to evaluate the impact on church members of the content, both concerning knowledge and also attitudes and behavioral intentions. Pretests and posttests were used to establish each attendee's knowledge, attitudes and behavior and the amount of gain after each of six teaching sessions. This project began with the development of a curriculum that incorporated all of the events and teachings in Jesus' life. The participants engaged in daily personal study and weekly small group interaction over a 12-week period. They also agreed to lead another individual or group through the same study. Through pre-program, post=program, and final interviews, the participants reported cognitive, attitudinal, and behavioral results. A long-term sermon plan was developed and implemented using the book of Second Corinthians to impact the believers at Fellowship Evangelical Church towards spiritual growth. An instrument was developed and used to pre-test and post-test participants in order to measure the effectiveness of the messages preached. Measurable areas of spiritual development were developed, incorporated didactically into the series, and stressed throughout the preaching series. The analysis of the post-test shows a measurable change in some areas of spiritual growth. Sixteen written questionnaires of graduates and eight case studies of graduates were personally interviewed. In 1996 when the research began the college had no means of evaluating and assessing the spiritual formation program. The desire was to develop and test an assessment tool for the spiritual formation of students at LCC.  The hypothesis was that LCC was accomplishing its goals in spiritual formation.  The research methodology sought to develop and test the tool form an initial pretest in May, 1996 and a posttest in May, 2000.  The pretest/posttest model was employed, supported by interviews, and a spiritual well-being instrument.
