However, very little research has been done on how these experiences impact the spouse. The focus of this research project is on the impact on the pastor's wife. This dissertation examines five case studies of wives of wounded pastors whose husbands have experienced conflict at their church resulting in them leaving their church. I have provided a narrative of each wife's situation as told by the wife. The narratives provide the context and thus provide clearer insights into the impact of their experiences. To help us understand the impact, we examined the challenges pastors and wives face while in the ministry context as compared to after they were forced to leave. The pastor's wife's voice has been a missing piece in our strategies in preparing pastors for ministry. This project distills her insights, along with those of pastors and church leaders and gives us a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges pastors and their wives face. This study includes tangible strategies to better equip pastors and their spouses to deal with the challenges of ministry. It provides information that can be used to develop ministries that support and encourage pastors and their wives when they encounter conflicts, are wounded and forced to exit from their church. These strategies will include ways churches, denominations, seminaries and new ministries can implement these recommendations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130284945571840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:10.089Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:05:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:34:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"92f7b961-83d9-4424-9ba6-891316d5ff07","accessControl_ssim":["55c27cfb-25fa-4dfa-9119-3f3242c11f7f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An evaluation of the marriage core program among the Chinese Christian couples in Hong Kong"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:04:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:26:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ced8685a-4384-4b52-a5aa-45253329ba68"],"hasLease_ssim":["b96355ef-16a4-4ec8-a39c-4577a5f182a7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jerry C Wofford","Charles Dickens"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph Tsang-Sing Lam"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Marriage counseling","Marriage--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The investigator found that in both theological and social science research, there are seven virtues for building a strong Christian marriage, namely, humility, spirituality, commitment, intimacy, passion, forgiveness and magnification of Christ. Each strategy has its benefits and losses, but all strategies must lead to the pinnacle of hearing God's word. This research will investigate the benefits for the church congregation at Highland Baptist Tabernacle of strategic, long-term sermon planning through the Book of Hebrews. The motivation behind the research is to determine whether strategic, long-term sermon planning benefits this local church congregation in the areas of biblical understanding, spiritual conviction, and Christian living. If this strategy for sermon planning is highly beneficial, it could be likened to that of a strenuous climb up the mountain-difficult but well worth the effort. Not only will this research be a determining model for our local congregation, it also could give insight into the effects of intentional long-term sermon planning for expository preaching in small, rural churches throughout the country."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130308180967424,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:32.249Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:59:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1c354395-b905-43ce-a8ae-9a1486244e79","accessControl_ssim":["2acd1b88-c6e6-4ea7-9d26-7d2f9e78e56e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping short-term mission team-leaders for effective misison trips"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:59:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:57:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8369428e-4884-4ccb-8500-8a562b91ba4f"],"hasLease_ssim":["ea3a0da1-ebef-4acf-ba52-5d6d779b5e34"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jerry C Wofford"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Edsel Dureus"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Short-term missions","Missionaries--Training of"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author identified and researched churches and para-church ministries with best practices and proven training resource materials to equip short-term mission (STM) trip team leaders and participants to have greater effectiveness in their STM trip endeavors with reliable principles. The first principle is that STM trip leaders must be well-equipped to train and lead their teams, and thus they will have a greater impact than their counterparts: untrained STM team leaders. The second principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders will know what to do purposely in order for them to have successful STM trips under all circumstances. The third principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders will strategically have systems in place to avoid or deal with pitfalls that tend to diminish the spiritual impact and the quality of STM trip experiences. The fourth principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders who are well equipped to train and lead their teams, become excep tionally indispensable catalysts to foster future long-term missionaries because of the quality of their previous STM trip experiences. The purpose of these case studies is to discover best practices and proven training resource materials to equip STM trip leaders and participants to have greater effectiveness and thus successful ministry in their STM trip endeavors by surveying three distinct ministries. In this project, STM trips will be defined by not only the length or duration of a specific mission trip, but also in terms of the specific ministry focus during the time frame which helps to determine its quality and effectiveness. Churches and para-church organizations will have a greater impact in their STM trips when the leaders of the teams and their participants are well trained for every assignment that encompasses their STM trips. The case study method was chosen. That allows an outside researcher flexibility to enter the context of interest, establish rapport, and to observe pertinent details and probe with formal and informal questions that will lead to deeper clarification and understanding in virtually every area of their inquiries. It also allows the researcher to administer data collection gathered from written materials as well as one-on-one interviews, in order to compare and contrast the findings. This project showed that STM trip leaders who are well equipped to train and lead their teams to have a greater impact than their counterpart, untrained STM team leaders. Also, after training STM trip leaders, they then know what to do in order to have successful STM trips under all circumstances. This research project showed there are churches and para-church ministry organizations with best training resource materials qualified to develop effective STM leaders and participants. When comparing the r esults of the three subjects in this research project, it is refreshing to discover the similarities in strong biblical convictions among them and the passionate commitment that fuels the fibers of their training resource materials to produce the kind of disciples that will glorify God on the mission field and at home."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129959033470976,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:59.276Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:59:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1aeffb6f-7fa1-43ce-a5a1-2de9ffe6cd7a","accessControl_ssim":["f314d2ad-c15d-4e88-a61e-52190fdd56bf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Program development and evaluation of teaching the gospel of the kingdom of God and how the gospel and discipleship are understood"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:59:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:55:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4de24a78-2783-42cb-ba5c-4f92b9d41951"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec289290-33a1-46bb-8913-508a1146b8e5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Barry D Jones"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Evan L Buja"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Kingdom of God","Christian education--Teaching methods","Christian life","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This research focuses on finding whether or not teaching the more comprehensive gospel of the kingdom of God is related to an increased understanding of what the gospel is and therefore, how discipleship is defined and understood. Participants did show growth in understanding that discipleship is directly related to the kingdom of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129947157299200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:47.950Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:58:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0e797de8-1530-4724-bd41-c0a7658e0ec4","accessControl_ssim":["648dfc88-861b-4888-8800-e8649f7ca308"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Selected case studies of immigrant churches that are reaching the next generation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:58:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:31:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f172bfa3-0d58-45f6-a8c9-cf4ced982eb5"],"hasLease_ssim":["8c5b10bd-b673-471f-8cec-0909f8974130"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Fletcher"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenslio Ojentis"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Emigration and immigration","Generations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this dissertation is that immigrant churches that reach the successive generations demonstrate specific practices that bridge the cultural and generation gaps. The body of the dissertation is divided into three parts. The first part examines current literature on the following: (1) Immigrants' role in America's changing demographic and the role of religion in the preservation of language and culture, (2) The historical development of ministries to the second-generation immigrants, (3) attempts to foster intergenerational relationships (4) the importance of leadership development, and (5) biblical parallels of generational and cultural challenges. The second part involves the research procedure and the rationale for choosing the case study methodology to investigate the selected immigrant churches in their specific cultural and religious contexts. The last part details case studies of immigrant churches that successfully minister to their second-generation believers. Since second-generation church members live and actively participate in the world of their parents and that of the land of their birth, they are often conflicted with unique challenges related to acculturation. The challenge for the immigrant church is to determine which indigenous religious policies, traditions, and cultural practices are worth adopting and which need to be rejected; which need to be retained, and which must be negotiated and adapted. As a result, the dissertation then concludes with a chapter detailing some best practices that are intergenerational and transcultural to fit in various ethnic contexts. These principles will make the case for the immigrant church to be regarded both as a multigenerational and an intergenerational household."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129871882125312,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:36.162Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:58:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:34:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"90c6d8e3-243e-47ea-b054-c30b454d235d","accessControl_ssim":["d5b06b3a-2fb4-4a2d-9848-e1949565f0c0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An evaluation of the benefits of experiential learning techiques used In selected marital enrichment programs"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:58:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:22:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6c18411a-3c62-443c-b650-b96ebb09d2e6"],"hasLease_ssim":["a77a9557-6fa7-410d-93a6-2461a6cf1ce0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael S Lawson"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David L Sumlin"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Married people"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The institution of marriage is believed to have reached a state of crisis. The study answers the following research question. What are the differences between selected male and female single parent concerns and issues that affect their church attendance and participation? The growth of the single parent family in American society necessitates this study. Single parent ministry is a vast mission field that has not been sufficiently infiltrated by the local church. The goal of this research is to begin the discussion securing gender-specific reactions to selected concerns and issues that are associated with attendance and participation in the local church. Six concerns and their associated issues have been selected. Concerns involving the Judgment of Others; Care for Children; Time management and Financial Resources; The Local Church's Response to Single Parenting; Personal Spiritual Growth; and Faith Transference to Children. A core group comprised of unwed single parents, divorced single parents, and widowed single parents, guided the study. Exclusions from the study were: Non-custodial single parents, cohabiting parents, parents who are married and parenting single. The custodial parent was chosen because of his/her reliability and consistency. Published literature beginning with the Bible offers clear guidance on how to approach the good and bad widow, the orphan, the divorced, the unwed, and the poor. Other literature offers sociological and historical data on the single parent family in America. Literature offers limited comparative data on male and female single parents and their religious practices. Because of the limited empirical data this study will contribute to the resources available for future studies. The comparative research data was collected from 112 custodial single parents currently raising children between the ages of birth to eighteen years of age. There are 74 women and 38 men who volunteered to participate using the 37-question online survey research instrument. For greater understanding, five individuals were personally interviewed on seven fundamental questions taken from the survey. More details on the data collection and research procedure will be shared in chapter three. This pioneering study offers estranged single parents inclusion in the local family of faith so that the trend of single parenting will be changed as they launch their children as arrows against the darkness of a secular society."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas
