Research included interviews with consultants, an analysis of courses from other seminaries, and a questionnaire submitted to pastors, leaders of local church missionary fellowships, and missionaries.  The curriculum contains objectives, a syllabus, and thirty lesson outlines which make extensive use of adult education techniques.  Two pastors, two missions professors, and two mission executives evaluated the curriculum. Thus this thesis-project took the form of a creative study for the purposes of building and suggesting models. Christianity in Africa cannot be understood apart from the historical and continuing influence of African traditional religion which permeates African life.  As a means of interpreting the African religious experience to American congregations through the interaction of research, lecture and dialogue, a workshop was included and explained. However, the black church is in danger of becoming disconnected from its historical and theological underpinnings.  This study helps black pastors and others involved in the music ministry to become more sensitive to issues related to the use of music.  The results of a sampling of area pastors and musicians revealed a need for greater pastoral leadership. These ministries involved evangelism, discipling (nurturing) ministries and a variety of ministries designed to meet physical needs.  The research method of this project was literary, involving an exegesis of the Greek text of the great commission and an examination of relevant, supporting scriptures.  Further research dealt with a study of Wesleyan and evangelical antecedents in holistic ministry. By means of the ministry of the Word, the 'Balligo Church Advance', and the systems models approach to pastoral leadership, the pastor and church became effectively involved in contextual mission. Library research, interviews, and class notes provided the theological basis for this thesis/project.
