ILDP was constructed on research findings of the Ten-year Church Development Project of the church, evaluation of the leadership, and knowledge learned through D.Min. course work. The program was offered in three-week retreats focusing on spiritual formation, discipleship and stewardship, and church administration. Pre and post-tests of the three sessions assessed the increase in knowledge and effectiveness of leadership. It was based on a theology of church as body of Christ and ministry as the priesthood of all believers, a historical study of Wesley's class meetings, and an integral model of ministry. Six clergy education events explored ways of recognizing and empowering lay ministries in an effort to address these roadblocks.  The aim was to equip clergy as facilitators of lay ministry as part of the renewal of the church in its mission in the world. The study examined combat experiences, vocational choices, depth relationships, and current ministry settings.  Results showed strong relationship between encounters with death or shattering of values and decisions to enter ministry. Results showed strong relational stability and hearing of posttraumatic stress disorder. Results indicate failure of seminaries to assist incoming students in task of integrating combat experience and religious vocation.
