Research into the biblical, historical, and theological roots of the sacrament led to the development of a theological framework which featured the primary aspects of remembrance, proclamation, participation, and thanksgiving.  This research also contributed to the planning of a study series, sermon series, and worship series which involved the congregation of First United Methodist Church, Moweaqua, Illinois, in a consideration of the sacrament's place in their faith experience.  Involvement in the project by this congregation led to a broader understanding of the sacrament, an enhanced experience of it, and a willingness to commune more frequently. Supporting research includes a study of scriptural foundations for koinonia, the unique fellowship of Christians in partnership with Christ; reports on five examples of Christian community and elements of koinonia in group life; and examination of leadership styles which enhance koinonia. Results were compared with satisfactions and stresses reported by generalized ministers and secular psychotherapists.  A stratified random sampling of 200 pastoral counselors was mailed questionnaires divided into backgrouind information and three rating scales on satisfaction and stress.  Results showed pastoral counselors significantly more satisfied in their counseling ministry and personal life than those in generalized ministry.  Job involvement and concept of call held less satisfaction for pastoral counselors than generalized ministers.  Therapeutic work was most satisfying when pastoral counselors could learn and grow while being helpful to others. The stress of working with disturbed people, emotional depletion, and organizational politics contributed to making their practice frustrating and discouraging. Conflict is conceptualized as a process moving toward actualization of social entities when the conflict is properly managed and toward disintegration when the conflict is poorly managed or unmanaged.  This conceptualization is developed theologically, biblically, historically, and sociologically. A project of congregational assessment was used to enable an urban congregation with declining membership to be engaged in evangelization. It was based on research gathered from the fields of Christian ethics, gerontology, decision-making, and interviews with those working through these decisions.  Pre- and post-assessments measured participants' cognitive learnings. The five workshops dealt with group decision-making dynamics and alternatives, issues facing the aged, and options for care.  Objectives were to contribute material beneficial to the participants.  Goals were to educate participants on the issues of the aging, care options, and a process of ethical decision-making. In the process of this growth, a change takes place in the person's image of God.  The methodology incorporated a modified case study in which a six-item questionnaire and follow-up interview were used with selected subjects.  The population selected for sampling consisted of sixty women who had the experience of spiritual direction for at least one year.  From these sixty subjects, four were chosen for a face-to-face taped interview.  Portions of each interview are incorporated in the study. A review of the literature for father-daughter incest includes a discussion of assessment criteria, as well as a review of recovery themes: self-esteem issues, exposure of the secret, reality shaping, experience of grief, and feelings of guilt and shame.  A review of the literature for forgiveness explores the dynamic formulations of key theologians and a discussion of the themes of: empathetic blessing, acceptance and expression of self, dealing with the past, and restoration of wholeness.  A single case history of pastoral counseling is explored through the use of verbatim accounts and a q-sort instrument which validates the experience of adjustment and forgiveness. Forgiveness is discussed as operating dynamically through memory, experiences of shame connected with empathy, responsible personal stewardship, an awareness of the dynamics of the incestuous family and the therapist's self-awareness. These dynamics operate as fluid themes.
