Numerical growth, teaching ministry skills and providing friendships for lonely students were the goals.  The campus minister formed a Christian care committee toencourage students through affirming phone calls. He began a friendship group, a small group discussion based on developmental needs of college students.  The Baptist Student Union grew numerically before the project began and no new growth resulted. The primary purpose of this project was to facilitate spiritual formation for a small group of leaders in the Trinity Heights Baptist Church.  This project provided each participant an opportunity to enlarge his or her faith by taking a look at how his or her faith developed.  In addition, each participant experienced four devotional practices selected to facilitate their spiritual growth. These barriers which are real and psychological include culture, language, religion, ethnicity, and fear, among others.  The project was conducted over a period of 16 weeks and was designed so that participants would have 8 weeks of experiential learning. Twenty-one learning sessions were conducted with 9 participants.  This writer confirmed his belief that Christians need to be trained to witness effectively to internationals.  He also gained insight into how participantsovercame barriers in communicating the gospel to people of other cultures.  More specifically, however, this writer was able to appraise the dynamic relationships among culture, language, religion, and ethnicity in witnessing encounters.  Understanding the cultural context is foundational for witnessing. Learning the basic beliefs of Asian religions is essential in witnessing to their followers. Two models of leadership were selected for this project. The situational leadership model of Paul Hersey and Kenneth H Blanchard introduced the concept of adapting leadership styles to the needs of the individual student and the demands of the situation.  Ernest O White's model introduced the skills of planning and organization as theyrelate to leadership.  Nine supervisors were trained to implement the concepts and skills of this project.  The effects of this training was measured with questionnaires given to the students and the supervisors of the project group.  The students also answered the Occupational Roles Questionnaire (Osipow and Spokane). The church is located in a rapidly changing community and must have a plan in order to reach and minister to that community.  The church, led by the pastor, elected a long-range planning committee, and through surveys and census information the committee identified the church's strengths and weakness and established a target group.  The committee then used this information and developed a plan that addressed some of the identified needs of the target group. Hundreds of these congregations form annually in the United States.  One solution that can meet this demand is to discover and train God-led lay persons to become bivocational ministers.  Methodology and a successfully implemented plan are presented with support from theological and theoretical presuppositions of bivocationalism. A cognitive map of burnout and recovery describes sources and processes of harmful stress and motivational stress. Utilizing a Twelve Step-oriented methodology, the writer advocates a theocentric as opposed to a humanistic approach for improving self-esteem. Working with women at one California-managed prison--Northern California Women's Facility--the writer researches the variables affecting Christian converts who live in the environment of incarceration.  Quantitative and qualitative comparison is performed between a target and control group. Research reveals that incarcerated women's self-esteem is enhanced with consistent counseling, monitoring, and covenant goals.
