The focus of the workshop centered on the relationship of spiritual gifts to ministry and leadership responsibilities.  The participants incorporated spiritual gift inventories, Bible studies, and peer affirmation in the process of discovering their spiritual gifts. The training consisted of a weekend prayer retreat and a ten-week support group.  Each participant took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and learned about their psychological type. Participants then learned four different types of prayer as taught in Prayer and Temperament: Different Prayer Forms of Different Personality Types by Chester P Michael and Marie C Norrisey. The thrust of the project is to explore ways to encourage and assist state conventions to do the best strategy planning and implementation they are capable of doing.  The design is a mutually accepted document delineating the state convention's approach and plans for language missions work. Interaction took place through regular consultation by telephone, mail and fax correspondence, on-site visits, and national conferences and conventions.  As the leaders struggled to identify their God-given vision, the author encouraged them to expand their horizons by considering creative strategies and establishing significant goals. The issue of giving is one of the most neglected topics in Christian ministry today.  The main objectives of the project included: teaching biblical contents related to the concept of stewardship giving; helping participants actualize monthly tithes or increase monthly giving according to biblical teachings; developing a teaching program on stewardship giving to be incorporated into the teaching system of the church; and, helping the congregation to become more aware of the responsibility of being a steward in the Kingdom of God.  Evaluation results indicated that all objectives for the program were realized. This project was the development and conducting of national training for potential Laser directors.  Through consultations with experienced national administrators, a survey of state and county mission leaders, and research of existing material, a manual was developed and training was conducted.  Fifteen participants were trained to utilize the knowledge and skills determined essential for directing a Laser project.  Effectiveness was determined by a post-training test and evaluations of participant Laser directors by national and state mission leaders. The project lasted from spring 1992 to spring 1993.  The pastor and all ministry department chairpersons worked as teammates of a new membership committee to compose a new member welcome package, to compile a new membership packet, and to make presentations at a one-day workshop, the new membership class.  Of the nineteen prospective members who attended the class, eleven wanted to join a ministry and eleven wanted to join church membership. They were paired with ten mentorees for six months.  The pairs met weekly, guided by a mentoring manual.  The project director met monthly with the mentors.  Each mentoree's growth in planning, relationships, and leadership skills was measured with pre- and post-questionnaires.  The mentorees evaluated the mentors.  Covenants and journals were developed by participants.  Conclusions reached were: a support system for Hawaii ministers is needed; ministers grow in a mentoring relationship; and, mentoring is a valid support system.
