The research findings reveal that the institutional leadership brought by the early British missionaries to Africa served its purpose at the time. However, as we move into the 21st century, this mode of leadership becomes inadequate for the church and Tidings of Faith. The research revealed that institutional leadership has failed to address all the questions of leadership distance between clergy and laity, that the clergy have been saddled with the work of running almost every aspect of the ministry while the laity almost always become spectators, and there has been no conscious attempt within this ministry to train laity for future leadership continuity. The researcher proposed team leadership as an effective and up-to-date option for Tidings of Faith in the years ahead. HOLD the children's work is patterned after the Two Hands Ministry Model of Jesus. The Bible has much to say about poverty and peoples responsibilities concerning it. Development experts estimate 1.4 billion people live in extreme poverty-subsisting on a {dollar}1 a day or less. There is extensive debate over how to effectively eradicate extreme poverty. Haiti, the context for this case study, is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere where 78 percent of its people live in poverty. A significant problem in Haiti is hunger. This thesis project develops a 'preaching workshop' for the new college ministers to give them confidence and skills to preach biblically on campus. Chapter two and three are the literature review and the biblical and theological background for the basis for preaching biblically to the university. Chapter four is a summary of the preaching workshop for new college ministers. Chapter five is the review of the workshop and suggestions for future improvements. The study design consisted of an independent assessment of observed leadership behaviors before and after implementation of the training program. Ten lay leaders from Mebane Presbyterian Church in Mebane, North Carolina were evaluated by peers and followers using the Mind Garden online multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ 5X). The study participants underwent an intervention using biblical materials and action steps from Bass and Avolio's Leader's Notebook. The thesis begins by surveying the congregation to learn about their three greatest personal crises.  Thirteen messages were delivered on Sunday mornings to address these crises.  Detailed fill-in-the-blank sermon notes were included in each Sunday's bulletin.  These inserts were accumulated into a resource booklet after the project as a quick reference tool to assist the congregation in caring for their neighbours, family and friends during a future crisis.
