It is God's intention to see his followers transformed into the image of his Son. One of the methods he has chosen to use to realize this spiritual life-change is the preaching of his Word. But preachers have to make sure they are committed to life-changing sermons and not merely an informational exchange. Sermons are meant to bring transformation, not simply inform people of what a biblical text is saying. The purpose of this study is to reintroduce the figure of John Berridge to a contemporary readership. Second it will argue that it is John Berridge's appropriation of the post-Reformational experiential tradition with its re-discovery of justification by faith that is foundational to his conversion, surrounds his experience in the Cambridgeshire Revival, and sustains his ministry in Everton. A worship pastor has the opportunity to shape the church and strengthen the effectiveness of its mission. First, the shepherd metaphor and shepherd leadership were examined. Second, an exploration of servant leadership and transformational leadership was conducted. Finally, interviews with eight worship pastors were conducted to determine how they perceive their leadership and how they lead. Many of these churches are in a declining status, often due to the removal of the historic gospel from the pulpits. It will take preaching the historic gospel of Jesus Christ from the pulpit once again to revitalize these churches. Towards that end, this project was undertaken to help cast a vision for revitalizing mainline churches and to encourage evangelical pastors to consider pursuing pulpits in mainline churches, to replant the gospel seed, and to revitalize these churches in order to reach communities for Christ. This thesis is targeted at church replanters and church replanter coaches. The students listening are the future leaders of America and other countries of the world. This thesis project develops a 'preaching workshop' for the new college ministers to give them confidence and skills to preach biblically on campus. Chapter two and three are the literature review and the biblical and theological background for the basis for preaching biblically to the university. Chapter four is a summary of the preaching workshop for new college ministers. Chapter five is the review of the workshop and suggestions for future improvements. The research highlights these points: (a) Many conservative evangelical women live within a male-preferred cultural context that defines them through a model of goodness and inequality. (b) Historically, some of these women have sought an identity beyond home and family. (c) In response to the feminist movement, many conservative evangelical churches grounded women's identity in the home, family, and church. (d) The church's response created an ongoing theological debate about women's roles that negatively affects women. The biblical research defines female personhood through the doctrine of the imago Dei and explores its meaning for women today by relating the imago Dei with the doctrine of Christology. Several of Paul's scriptural passages with regard to women are also interpreted through these two doctrines. Finally, the research findings confirm that some conservative evangelical Christian women report a depressive mood and that there are various reasons why.
