Ten (10) friendship dyads of the same gender were interviewed utilizing 13 open-ended questions. An additional 215 single adults also participated in a 25-question survey. The process describes the journey to spiritual maturity following the model of human development from infancy to adulthood. The practice describes efforts which foster spiritual growth through a personal relationship where an older believer assists a person younger in the faith. Tremendous spiritual potential exists within many congregations in the lives of older saints to help others develop spiritually. Obstacles must be overcome to link older and younger men and thereby promote spiritual fathering. Spiritual fathering will access those needs and offer insights to promote such a ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132049025794048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:57:12.448Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:08:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7bb76531-543d-4ab7-8ed8-5b4cf5abab94","accessControl_ssim":["f5978755-9c9e-47da-83e8-4fe0caeb7aae"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A synthesized methodology for extempore preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:08:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:47:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0e6d2fed-fbe1-410e-a7e4-624c82661276"],"hasLease_ssim":["b4b360ba-beb0-40a7-88c2-18476233d73b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jeffrey Arthurs"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lillian J Buckley"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Communication","Extemporaneous preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis project suggests that extemporaneous preaching is more in tune with the needs of a contemporary audience. Preaching extemporaneously allows the minister to sustain eye contact with listeners and it also enables the preacher's speech patterns to be more conversational and hence more alive, and immediate, appealing to post modern audiences. Much has been written about extemporaneous preaching but there is a dearth of comprehensive and consistent information on how to do it. The thesis of this project is that various authors who have written methodologies on how to preach without notes can be synthesized into a comprehensive and usable application for preaching without notes. Data from listeners in a congregation suggests that preaching that is engaging and immediate is favored whether from notes or not. What constitutes a healthy small group? In what way does authentic Christian community contribute to spiritual renewal and life-transformation? While many of the existing models of intervention are useful and worthwhile, this thesis will suggest that certain key ingredients are sometimes avoided or neglected in an attempt to move quickly toward a satisfactory resolution of a problem. Effective problem solving, especially when dealing with a difficult person, cannot always be reduced to a simple step-by-step approach. The purpose of this thesis will be to explore and present another option for dealing with the presence of a difficult person that is both biblical and practical.
