Se desarrolló una intervención de consejería pastoral basada en los Salmos Bíblicos para ayudar a personas a lidiar con sentimientos depresivos a partir de un acercamiento integrador en lo que a la psicología se refiere. Medidas comparativas entre los resultados de pre- y post-pruebas fueron obtenidas utilizando las escalas desarrolladas por Beck con un grupo de voluntarios, evaluando le efectividad de la intervención propuesta. The psychological theories that are integrated for this thesis include Family Systems Theory, Structural Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. The thesis was applied to a young married couple with the use of the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis, The Personality Self-Portrait by Multi-Health Systems, and the Prepare/Enrich Inventory assessment tools. The intervention was based on peer patient narratives and was presented in video format for six consecutive weeks as either spiritually oriented or as factually oriented.  The spiritual transformation scale (STS) score of the spiritually oriented narrative group was significantly greater than the factually oriented narrative group. Through ignorance, lack of training, or misinterpretation of scripture, many pastors encourage unhealthy submission to abusive spouses, offer inappropriate Christian platitudes, and advocate for the 'sacredness of the family' at the expense of a woman's health and life -- compelling women to stay in abusive marriages, thus hindering them from receiving the help they need. Recent research indicates that many of these pastors agree that they are ill-equiped to minister to abused Christian women, and some genuinely desire training and ministry resources to help the women in their congregations. Therefore, the first two chapters of this project demonstrate a complete frame of reference for conducting marriage and family counseling including explication of a fully integrated biblical/theological rationale for such counseling interventions. The special third chapter on premarital counseling is included to emphasize the importance of this often over-looked resource in marriage and family counseling. The theoretical framework for marriage and family counseling ministry presented in this project is cogently informed by the literature review in the second chapter leading to a clear definition of stylistic differentials. An example of one preferred and experientially typical style of intervention is demonstrated in the fourth chapter through a comprehensive family case study. The case study includes essential components of evaluative and interventive planning, such as diagnostic tools and apparatus, description and assessment of individual and family system dynamics, conceptualization process and development of a cohesive treatment plan using cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and resources for spiritual formation, growth, and discipleship. The comprehensive treatment plan is followed in the fifth chapter by a critical evaluation and analysis of how the case has actually progressed to date.
