An overuse of power could lead to a negative, controlling environment where churches and people are harmed. An underuse of power could lead to a general malaise in the church: a lack of direction and passion for the Lord's work. This thesis-project was a leadership awareness study of the nature of power and authority in the role of pastoral leadership in which the biblical and theological perspectives on the issue of pastoral authority were explored. A protocol for pastors was developed to assist them in becoming more self-aware of their authority and how they can employ that authority more effectively for the glory of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131480106205184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:48:09.884Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:06:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dc034767-4a74-4e89-a412-c8b55d9ba02b","accessControl_ssim":["a2de9c5d-6da5-45da-864f-bf2c696d99a9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Prayful preparation: elder education as spiritual formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:25:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ff599a81-1100-42e6-8ed7-e85e0b4778b0"],"hasLease_ssim":["a579b82d-facb-486b-91c1-466a13d58245"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Macchia"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Leslie D Rust"],"keyword_tesim":["Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.--Government"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Christian education of adults","Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A","Elders (Church officers)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Presbyterian Church (USA) is governed by ruling elders in its congregations. These lay leaders are required to go through a course of education prior to assuming their office. The exact nature of that training is not made explicit in the church's constitution, so it is left to each congregation to discern a program that will prepare their ruling elders for faithful service. This mandated moment is an opportunity for positive spiritual growth. But many of the approaches to this task have relied on a heavily didactic method that focuses on transferring information, rather than a devotional method which focuses on spiritual formation. What is offered here is entitled 'Prayerful preparation: Elder education as spiritual formation.' The question is whether a course of education that emphasizes daily Bible study, daily prayer, and reflection will move elders towards greater spiritual growth and make them better prepared as they assume the office of ruling elder."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132665334726656,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:07:00.206Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:13:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fdbd2c23-df8e-4788-8044-c49e97663cb6","accessControl_ssim":["7c74a9c1-b3aa-4db5-ab87-381aba11120d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Revitalization and reconciliation of worship in the Southern District Convocation of the United Holy Church of America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:23:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["19d62bb2-e16e-4910-8a47-521ce0309c0f"],"hasLease_ssim":["4a965c17-d344-425f-beaa-c445f712e609"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David A Currie"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Charles E Lewis"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","United Holy Church of America"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["One of the basic features of church life in the United Holy Church (UHC) is the proliferation of worship and music. The results are adaptable to other ministry contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131313500061696,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:30.996Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:37:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4d027539-beeb-4d79-bb7d-70e9add2421e","accessControl_ssim":["11a8173e-e9d4-4ef5-8ef3-459811b8290c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["For my yoke is easy and my burden is light: redeeming the language of submission for women survivors of abuse in a New England congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:23:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fb4b2976-6db1-41b6-8f94-80659ca3949e"],"hasLease_ssim":["028924ec-0277-4a2c-9fc2-275b001d3615"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David A Currie"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bonnie L Prizio"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with women","Abused women","Women--Religious life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis addresses the attitude of submission and its relevance to Christian faith and sought to evaluate if views on this are different for women who have been abused. The goals of the study were twofold: (1) assist in the design and implementation of a prototype hybrid preaching course; and (2) conduct the study to determine students' reactions to the design and implementation of the course. Two questions framed the study to ascertain students' feelings regarding how the course was designed to deliver content: (1) How would students react to a prototype hybrid course in preaching? (2) What recommendations would students offer to enhance learning and improve future hybrid course development? Data was collected by electronic survey, focus groups and individual interviews. The data confirms that course design (1) is essential to ensure optimal learning for students, (2) is essential for students to perform well in a hybrid course, (3) is directly correlated to students' attitudes and perceptions of the course and overall satisfaction with the course."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129780855242752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:21:09.352Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1e0beec6-a28d-4884-a185-c6b1c540fc44","accessControl_ssim":["8b3b74dc-6d92-43d7-9b24-93ade85002cb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Leadership training and development for cross-cultural engagements in the Bible translation task: a narrative strategy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:20:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:01:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["94bc5689-6838-46e4-9582-a8363127bdb1"],"hasLease_ssim":["291a264e-93e3-4bc0-b6ac-6807a67c5045"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Karen Mason"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Margaret B Doll"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Intercultural communication","Translating and interpreting","Narrative inquiry (Research method)","Bible"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to develop the use of a narrative-based training strategy for oral and literate partners involved cross-culturally in Bible translation.
