The thesis begins with an analysis of the need for new missionaries in the C&MA while also showing how the denomination has addressed the issue. The second and third chapters provide a biblical-theological framework of missions and missionary recruitment along with a broad understanding of millennials and their postmodern context. Finally, a strategy for recruiting missionaries from among the millennials in the US Christian & Missionary Alliance is offered, providing helpful suggestions for local congregations to implement, as well as steps of action for the C&MA to take at the national and district levels. Special attention is also given to short-term missions experiences and their strategic part in the recruiting strategy in the first appendix.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
4d87c4a4-bef2-4df5-b778-0300857a3e8a
3f5f3b18-18ef-479c-a4ed-d249dd3c621c
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Audience analysis and adaptation: responding to the challenge of preaching in multiple settings
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
c4a36eaa-d260-4b30-bc56-fd575983c13a
92b9151a-2dd8-438e-9c2c-757adda7f2f5
1
1
Atla RIM
Unknown
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Scott M Gibson
2004
Unknown
Text
William H Reist
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Pastoral counseling--Methodology","Persuasion (Psychology)","Preaching--Study and teaching
English
This study explores whether, and if so, how, preachers should alter the sermon when speaking from the same text in multiple settings. The New Testament provides not only some principles for establishing and maintaining healthy churches and structures for the missionary work, but it also offers models for collective leadership, empowering leadership and culturally sensitive leadership. At the same time balance could be maintained between the Spirit's leadership and the structures. The author uses the evaluative method. His aim is to identify the factors which are crucial in creating a balance between the Spirit's leadership, and the structures necessary for healthy churches and missions. He applies also phenomenological method. As a conclusion the author asserts that mission organizations and national churches should be more concerned with structures that can affirm and support the unity of different local churches. Lack of such structures brings independent and isolated local congregations that can only contribute to world missions in a limited way. Churches must find a balance between visionary leaders and assisting managers. The main purpose of leadership is to empower people to build up the body of Christ. Because mission work is now understood as being from everywhere to everywhere, culturally intelligent coaching is needed. New sending countries are especially in need of relevant structures, but at the same time, old mission countries have become stagnated without having an attitude of life-long learning. This dissertation demonstrates that it is possible to build clear structures while maintaining the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
53e2ae43-c76d-42c0-912c-1528eea99d1a
2c95ada2-7e55-49aa-ab76-f935ae52b687
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
A plea for spiritual renewal in the AME Zion Church
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
d3fa1c54-4959-42a2-bffc-d971e656391e
e462715d-b495-4fe8-b90a-b2cd3197a43e
1
1
Atla RIM
Unknown
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Garth M Rosell
2005
Unknown
Text
Cecil Raysor
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Church renewal--African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church","African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church
English
In the years following WWII, many within the A.M.E. It examines the call to ministry and its importance in carrying out the office of pastor. It considers problem areas and obstacles in the life of a pastor that can cause him to be discouraged, disillusioned or to succumb to moral or financial failure. The study consists of interviews with pastors, wives of pastors, district superintendents, denominational presidents and other ministry leaders. Additionally, the work draws from a host of written material on the various reasons why pastors leave ministry. As a result of the study and interviews, it is concluded that most pastors have a number of perils that they must avoid whenever possible if they truly wish to remain in ministry and be effective therein. The best guideline to follow seems to be the instruction given to Timothy by the Apostle Paul -- '...keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist and discharge all the duties of your office' (2. Tim. 4:5).
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
cad3e7b0-ee23-4243-99e2-832565c03eee
2a10e04c-31a0-4a80-8caa-46fb79d481e1
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Exploration 21: whose God is God?
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
f6e8e9f0-b64b-47c1-8ba5-847a1f143e8a
1533a7ef-18b8-4fab-bf3c-c6018e4ef533
1
1
Atla RIM
Unknown
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Gary A Parrett
2003
Unknown
Text
Jon M Vermillion
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Salvation","Comparative studies
English
The following investigation centers on the salvation claims made by the religions of Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Orthodox Judaism. The Church should search for the same position that Jesus embraced -- live in the tension of being in the world, but not of the world. What would a worship model, maintaining this tension, look like? This thesis begins by exploring the fundamental teachings that are forever necessary to Christian worship. The Church's worship must remain thoroughly biblical with Jesus being the center, no matter what cultural setting. This must form the content of worship. Postmodernism contains some values that are in direct conflict with Christianity, and the Church must never compromise on its beliefs. Other postmodern values, such as the desire for community and the search for spiritual meaning provide the Church a great opportunity to express authentic Christianity and influence many. The cultural values help shape the style and the relevance of worship. This thesis examines four worship services from churches that are attempting to incarnate Christianity in a postmoden setting.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
f2d9efdd-23ae-4b77-ad3b-fb488d5c8ca3
7f244ee7-b97f-4b66-ad12-1388e3fc615d
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
The Chestnut neighborhood revitalization project: a church-neighborhood partnership to develop and implement a neighborhood plan as an approach to reclaiming God's prodigal communities
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
f034d187-489e-4eec-8fbe-7f518ed7c653
bf84ae9d-2de3-44d1-b294-6b0ff944e813
1
1
Atla RIM
Unknown
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Alvin Padilla
2003
Unknown
Text
Joseph C Parker
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Urban renewal","Partnership--Religious aspects--Christianity","David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (Austin, Tex)
English
This work is a systemic study that examines and evaluates the multiple factors related to the development and implementation of a neighborhood revitalization initiative.
