Online renewal used Sabbath themes to provide web-based content.  To facilitate accountability and chaplains' desire for fellowship a 'Sabbath friend' was created.  The MBI Human Services Survey instrument determined the success of web-based renewal.  Overall, MBI found chaplains decreased their feeling of burnout and increased their feelings of ministry accomplishment. The online Sabbath renewal project was a first step to provide Navy chaplains a viable opportunity to continue their spiritual vitality in arduous duty assignments around the world.  The evaluation of the web design was a secondary goal.  Using Likert scales, the evaluation measured technical aspects of web-based design such as cognitive load, aesthetics, and navigation. The online renewal site successfully helped chaplains with spiritual renewal/awareness that resulted in greater feelings of accomplishment in ministry.  The results of this project also offered hope for the future application of web-based renewal for everyone in the helping profession.  In the end, this project accomplished a new method for facilitating the ancient need for spiritual renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131727115059200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:05.450Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:51:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"932a67ea-0bbe-4a26-9921-1a4ec6eb2c8b","accessControl_ssim":["3c67244a-6694-4910-adf0-bc7c8593c559"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christocentric collaboration in prison ministry fosters exponential inmate transformation: test case of three Hartford churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:26:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ff71136d-3323-4732-b670-4120b314bb51"],"hasLease_ssim":["440e304b-6b37-4f35-a671-b0ca94340bc8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas Hall","Alvin Padilla"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["Connecticut--Hartford"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Geraldine S Sailor Fair"],"keyword_tesim":["Cooperative Church work"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with prisoners"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Various studies have been conducted investigating the manner in which prison ministries have been facilitated by individual churches.  Such studies have revealed the difficulties that some churches experience especially in the areas of maintaining a strong budget to support the ministry, recruiting volunteers to staff, and stabilizing pastoral support for their existence.  Individual church ministries are strongly committed to the existence of prison ministry at the theological, emotional, and spiritual levels.  However, the financial, labor, and emotional support which is essential to undergird a prison ministry is more than many churches can manage without external support.  The prison population that attends chapel services has increased exponentially, which substantiates the need for Christian volunteers to minister in the prisons. The primary premise is that if more spiritually mature Christians called by God to the prison ministry would volunteer to minister, it might maximize the number of inmates coming to faith.  The impact of prisoners experiencing a spiritual transformation through salvation might increase the chance of their families' desire for their salvation to be realized.  This thesis poses the question whether collaboration among a 'cluster' of churches is essential to develop an effective prison ministry.  The study examines test cases from three churches in Hartford, Connecticut which have developed prison ministries."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131680840351744,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:51:21.319Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:51:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"948ae38d-5a3d-454b-a4d6-a63fc7cfa76b","accessControl_ssim":["3b0c3550-9ca1-496c-b5c1-3b171a8c827a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Baby boomer women facing retirement"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:28:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2d34addd-99b8-468a-abbc-a88403cb5157"],"hasLease_ssim":["1419e3c6-75db-4511-b9b3-feed883a3535"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alice P Mathews"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Cynthia J Fantasia"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Baby boom generation","Church work with older people","Retirement","Church work with women"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis is based on the imminent wave of baby boomers entering retirment, their readiness, the church's readiness to respond, and what the baby boomer woman and the church can do to prepare for this seismic shift in society. Seventy-six million baby boomers will begin the retirement process in 2006, and, judging from the writer's research, most boomers are not ready to move into retirement, nor will they retire in the same way the previous generation did.  Many boomers desire to transition into retirement -- cut back to part-time, move in and out of a variety of jobs, or even start a new business that will fulfill a dream.  They are looking for significance, have a desire to 'give back,' and have serious financial concerns.  Because it is heavily populated with boomers, the church is certainly going to experience a change because of this prodigious movement of retiring boomers. With adequate preparation and vision, the church is also in the position to reap Kingdom rewards by engaging the boomer in Kingdom work.  This project was designed to understand the boomer woman, her needs and desires as she moves toward retirement, and also to discover ways the church can respond to the boomer and her desire to give back. A ministry model is developed based on the author's experience of an unusually high number of divorces in a church where he served; an analysis of biblical teaching on marriage, divorce, and remarriage; interviews with divorced Christians active in local churches; interviews with pastors and parachurch workers who have experience counseling the divorced; and research in the field. The development of the model also drew from an analysis of a local parachurch divorce recovery ministry and from research on the social and psychological impact of divorce on the church. Several misconceptions are revealed about the divorce experience, social consequences, and ministry to the divorced.  Outlines are used to develop a paradigm for ministry to the divorced and remarried that can be used by evangelical churches with varying theological assumptions about divorce, as well as by churches of varying sizes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130781881466880,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:04.005Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:26:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:55:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a8ab6e5c-0cfd-42ff-a89d-6e1586c322c4","accessControl_ssim":["ff288b05-f60d-4296-a5c9-e3213438831a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of family system theory as a pastoral care approach to patient care within a hospital setting"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:26:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:01:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1fe00180-f75e-4a22-ae73-2c558a1c21c9"],"hasLease_ssim":["6ce350db-5737-499a-a2a4-16398c6a3c7f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael E Haar"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["System theory","Healing in the Bible","Church work with the sick","Communities--Religious aspects","Family counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis applies the principles of family system theory to patient care in the hospital setting. This retreat manual was designed to lead people into a deeper spirituality.  The group that tested this out was comprised of volunteers from the church I pastor, the Fulton Alliance Church.  The expectation of the retreat manual was to allow the retreatants to grow in the Lord as well as to serve him in the context of the local church.  The retreat manual was divided into three sections: salvation, sanctification, and vocation.  Section one was designed to give clarity to salvation.  Section two was designed to lead to further present sanctification.  Section three was designed to assist the retreatants in identifying and applying their unique vocation. Upon examining the results of those who participated in the application of the retreat manual, I concluded that this project was successful in attaining the previously mentioned goals."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130870373941248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:28.398Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:26:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:12:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f9272c27-a8c1-46d6-9408-a0761c643910","accessControl_ssim":["ff051c5f-f23b-47ab-9ef5-ea49a904eb5b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Expository preaching in youth ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:26:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:14:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["932e4598-cedf-4f5b-b374-4ddce66cf72b"],"hasLease_ssim":["97966525-2a6c-4f53-8dbd-e53594d57501"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Sid Buzzell"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert Mark Harris"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Office","Expository preaching","Church work with youth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study examines how the modern-day ecclesiastical office of 'youth pastor' intersects with expository preaching.  First, a biblical examination of the legitimacy of the office is undertaken.  If, in fact, one is going to take the title of 'pastor,' what does that mean?  A brief study regarding the primary responsibility of the 'pastor' as a teacher of God's Word is examined.  The first chapter closes with a theological study of the significance of teaching in an expository manner. The exact definition of expository preaching is then evaluated, especially as set against what is commonly referred to as 'topical preaching.'  The way in which expository preaching fits into the ministry of a youth pastor committed to God's design for ministry is then discussed.  A five-chapter manual follows for training youth pastors in expository preaching. The first chapter revisits the job definition of a youth pastor -- according to God.  The second chapter seeks to clearly lay out expository teaching/preaching as the only legitimate manner of preaching -- for it has at its heart the understanding, communication, and application of the authorial intent of the passage.  Chapter 3 focuses on seven specific principles of hermeneutics.  It is designed to assist youth pastors as they seek to determine a biblical author's intent through exegesis.  Chapter 4 discusses how to convey that intent into an adolescent's world, using the Ladder of Abstraction.  Chapter 5 addresses twelve guidelines for writing a message with the youth culture in mind.  Finally, the Appendix models the expository method with six messages geared to youth."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132991341199360,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:12:11.110Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":762,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":2,"label":"Dissertation"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Abraham S Chen","hits":1,"label":"Abraham S Chen"},{"value":"Adam L Feldman","hits":1,"label":"Adam L Feldman"},{"value":"Adam Perry Alexander","hits":1,"label":"Adam Perry Alexander"},{"value":"Alan D Stoddard","hits":1,"label":"Alan D Stoddard"},{"value":"Alan G Cole","hits":1,"label":"Alan G Cole"},{"value":"Alan W Anderson","hits":1,"label":"Alan W Anderson"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Church and community","hits":11,"label":"Church and community"},{"value":"Relation (Theology)","hits":11,"label":"Relation (Theology)"},{"value":"Clergy--Performance standards","hits":8,"label":"Clergy--Performance standards"},{"value":"Religious surveys","hits":8,"label":"Religious surveys"},{"value":"Sermon preparation","hits":6,"label":"Sermon preparation"},{"value":"Practice (Theology)","hits":5,"label":"Practice (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Preaching","hits":73,"label":"Preaching"},{"value":"Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","hits":71,"label":"Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity"},{"value":"Expository preaching","hits":59,"label":"Expository preaching"},{"value":"Preaching--Study and teaching","hits":41,"label":"Preaching--Study and teaching"},{"value":"Spiritual formation","hits":40,"label":"Spiritual formation"},{"value":"Evangelistic work","hits":37,"label":"Evangelistic work"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":22,"label":"United States"},{"value":"India","hits":8,"label":"India"},{"value":"New England","hits":8,"label":"New England"},{"value":"Canada","hits":5,"label":"Canada"},{"value":"China","hits":5,"label":"China"},{"value":"Massachusetts--Boston","hits":3,"label":"Massachusetts--Boston"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":764,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":764,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":764,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2007","hits":96,"label":"2007"},{"value":"2009","hits":66,"label":"2009"},{"value":"2012","hits":65,"label":"2012"},{"value":"2006","hits":64,"label":"2006"},{"value":"2010","hits":64,"label":"2010"},{"value":"2011","hits":59,"label":"2011"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":764,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":763,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Doctor of Ministry","hits":1,"label":"Doctor of Ministry"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":764,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":764,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":51,"next_page":52,"prev_page":50,"total_pages":77,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":500,"total_count":764,"first_page?":false,"last_page?":false}}}
